Board looks sick. If I didn’t have mutant size 12 gunboats I’d def grab it. I remember everslick from when it first dropped in the early 90’s. I had the old Tom Knox one, my boy had the Dressen. I’m pretty sure Santa Cruz had the first slick bottom decks, and they went. I still have have the Thrasher add from it too. Glad they brought these back.

I definitely want to buy one of these. Thanks for showing us the break in period and giving an honest review. My first board was a Jason Rothmyer Santa Cruz! It had a square razor sharp tail by the time I got a new board. It was so bad. It’s funny to think about how long you skate your first 5 boards. When I quit alien workshops had the best pop. I was buying the dipped neon colored alien boards. I just bought a new complete to start skating again. I wish I would have got one of these. Actually I don’t think I’ll be doing any slides on my first board. I have to get my balance back.

I don't skate anymore. Too old now kinda, but we used to be able to keep a slick forever, and slick's are nothing new... I've only had maybe 2 in my life compared to 80-90 others (wood) maybe more..but sometimes your gonna be whether it be a little impatient or just sloppy, other things of the mind. But you're gonna want to stomp a trick⚠️well if you miss bolts, that's usually at minimum a crack but typically a broken board. Slick's are possible to kill, but it'll take good reason. To the guy in this video, your really pretty good! Also I like the graphics on that board.

I recently tried a Monarch deck for the first time, and it has a wood style everslick which is kinda interesting where its laser engraved into the wood, the idea is air flow and less friction = longer slide, idk bout none that but sound fancy rides fine, this deck is a must for my collection imo

I've been buying decks since the 80's. The fact that the cost is almost identical is mind blowing and another reason skating is the fucking best! $100 for that deck isn't 'cheap'', but considering it's 40 years later and the price is almost the same, it's still a great deal! Thanks for all the videos, Tom!

Awesome video as always. I'd be really interested in seeing some sort of "how to get good at skateboarding" video from you. Maybe something that goes over your general mindset when it comes to skateboarding and how it compares from now to when you were still on the come up. I've been skating for about 5 years now and some days I get pretty frustrated with my progress or lack thereof. Would be interesting to see how you approach skateboarding; whether you view sessions as "practice", any rules you follow, goal setting, key techniques you may or may not have focused on, times where you felt stuck or unmotivated, or on the flip side, times you felt enthusiastic and made a lot of progress. Just some food for thought I suppose!

This deck next to the recent salba tiger reissue looks pretty good I reckon cuz of the flame being a similar colour behind a cat. Been skating a few boards recently since getting back into it and this is my favourite Ive tried. I even broke my wrist before Christmas while skating it so it's a more memorable graphic for me now.

I'm old enough to remember santa cruz bringing the slick skin out originally. Way back in 91. Tom knox. After about 2 years you wouldn't see slickskin. Why? Maybe coz after a bit of use it would fall off. Especially if you did nose or tail slides a fair bit. It would ware through and then peel off. Have they improved the technology since then?

Back when everslicks first appeared in the 90's they definitely worked as advertised but the slick layer would kind of get bits that would peel off after a while - wonder if that's still the case? Also, most people would cut off a small section of everslick on the nose and tail tip to get the wood pop while retaining the everslick slide!
@tomasta
@tomasta Жыл бұрын
i know they have changed the technology a bit for the new ones. i havent seen any peel apart or fall off...but the pop is still weird in the first 10 mins or so till you wear away the plastic on the tail

I've skated for like 26 years at this point. A few years ago I started skating VX decks, really changed my skating since it's been too easy for me to snap decks being quite tall/athletic, and now I never need to worry about landing wrong and breaking boards anymore, it's done wonders for progression and confidence. The nose/tail will still wear out like normal, and had a lot of chipping too from the board shooting off into sharp corners, but the value for money is evident. In fact it seems odd that anyone likes to skate regular decks anymore what with the price not really being that much cheaper overall and you could literally break a regular board within days of purchase.
@jabbaughfc
@jabbaughfc Жыл бұрын
I feel the same way about VX and flight decks. I am tall as well and used to break through decks pretty quickly. I haven't broken a VX or flight deck yet. I do put some waterproof woodglue on the tail to prevent the tail from razoring out. I don't nollie much so I leave the nose alone. The boards last me probably around 3 to 5 times longer than a wood deck so they end up being the cheaper option (1 flight/vx deck is cheaper than 3 wood decks). I also can do lip/rail slides without worrying about breaking the deck and have seen myself progress more because I am not constantly worried about breaking the deck.

I skate my VX Decks 3 times longer than a all wood boards. So to me that justifies the cost. Also skateboard decks were at $50 when I was a kid back in the 80s, they eventually had to go up in price. Now you pay $80 for a wood deck and $95 for a VX. I will stick with VX and Powell Flight Decks due to how long they hold that pop.
