Tony Hawk is the only celebrity that I'd absolutely love to meet. I don't skate, (tried to, it didn't take) but the culture, the music, the games, the "fashion" (still wear skate shoes) were such a huge part of my life and everybody I know my age. Precisely because I never had the ability for skate boarding, or the discipline/perseverance I'm in awe of those that can do it well. Tony Hawk for president!

3 things this video taught me: 1. If KZbin had been around when I tried skateboarding as a kid, I might have been able to ollie after watching the slowmo in this video, and I wouldn't have given up so fast. 2. Tony Hawk cannot do every trick in the book. I had literally no idea. I thought he was superman on a skateboard. 3. He's a really humble dude and I would like to be his friend. Ok, I already knew that one, but it needed saying again.

He literally invented/popularize 16 out of 21 tricks mentioned, until the tricks got ridiculously risky (he was considerably old even when he did 900, it is stupid to go for higher momentum tricks unless you want to be crippled). The ones above 900 are performed by a lot younger skaters, because it was a lot easier for them to push the envelope further. He is indeed a national treasure :)

@@tamerlanegrand Any 'personal sport' leaves you with no ability to shift blame onto others, so... owning your mistakes (and the reality that ATTEMPTS far, far outweigh successes) is a given. In TEAM sports, you can just shift the spotlight onto others. But... in skating... fencing... snowboarding... tennis... Tricking, MMA, etc. ... you basically have no one to take credit for successes & failures except yourself. 💪😎🤟

@@Novastar.SaberCombat That’s incorrect. It’s not a given. Many professionals in both non-team and team sports struggle with owning - let alone publicizing - their failures.

Yea man good point. Gotta just practice and don’t overthink it if you’re not that good yet (like myself) I always feel like people are laughing at me but it’s all in my head

i love seeing tony skating flat ground, just going to the basics. it really “humanizes” (i use that term VERY lightly in this context) his skating

Even now, it's great to know that Tony is still super-passionate about skateboarding, even all these decades later. Keep going, Birdman.

"I watched him try this trick for almost 3 hours straight and make it once, and it was worth it". Any non-skaters would be sick of watching by a few minutes, let alone 3 hours. Gotta love seeing someone so passionate about what they do.

It reminded me that I've watched my sword fighting students for hours trying new techniques and it's just an amazing moment when everything goes ting-ting-clack and just works. :-D I would guess that it's always rather nice to see someone struggle and then succeed in a field you love.

@@mortisCZ and what's the successful outcome? The sword piercing through? Kinda disturbing...
@mortisCZ4 жыл бұрын
@@han1218 No, we don't have that many students. :-D It'S when they perform moves well with good tempo etc. that would be deadly if they used sharp swords and much less protective gear. To sum things up the moment is when you truly understand not just how some technique works in general but how to coordinate your body to do it yourself.
