You should go to a skatepark. It’s way more fun to ride down a ramp. Also gets you comfortable with high speeds on the skateboard.

Balance is everything. I see so many skaters starting out trying to kickflip and trying grinds but everything starts with your balance and stance on your board. Be comfortable stepping, turning basic riding and things like jumping on a moving board or jumping on the board while putting it down when you're running. Once you're balance is good everything becomes so much easier. My tip for everyone starting out, ride everywhere and all the time especially on the street. You're going to fall, but that's just part of the fun:)

Please keep at it. You've got the perfect attitude toward the learning process. It's refreshing to see someone articulate the fundamentals rather than jump straight to trying a kickflip. It's like reading sheet music verses playing tabs. This is how you get better faster.

One of the few truly positive things in the world I have seen lately has been the recent uptake in people picking up skateboarding. It's not just that though, it's out of genuine interest for skating. Skating has no barriers, everyone belongs. No matter the skin colour, language, region, whether you're depressed as hell, a happy go lucky person, someone who has been through hell, or someone who is literally royalty, skateboarding sees you no different. Have fun out there. I used to skate semi pro, and I've just picked it up again. Not interested in any contests or anything. I just crave that connection back. When you find the tricks that resonate with you as you learn them, there is a freedom of expression that I can't even find with art, let alone any other "sports". Keep it up homie, this is the kind of coverage skateboarding deserves. People having fun.

Also, a little tip for an Ollie. Imagine you are standing side on next to a low wooden border or rail and you want to simply jump over it (no skateboard involved). You would lift the foot nearest to the rail, jump off the back foot, and then land with your front foot on the other side as you lift your back foot over the rail. Picture that in your head and it is kind of what you are doing with an ollie.

Ricky brought me here, and you're doing well. one thing that can help with ollies, that took me a while to learn too, is leaning your front foot sideways so the bottom of your foot comes up with the front side of front foot still making contact. Doing this during ollie when you go to slide your front foot forward brings the board up higher. Also you can bring your front foot more in the middle of the length of the board when setting up for an ollie. These two things together will help for higher pop and rolling ollies.

i know im late to the party but i just saw this today,im glad to see youre still skating! a couple of notes 1) for your shove its, when you are using your hands, look at how you are wrappping your back hand around the edge of the board. That is how you should set your foot up. You want to "wrap your back foot around the edge of the board and push that as hard as you can to get the spin right 2) good job on getting your ollies down better, very proud of you. I found a video of a guy who broke down an ollie in 3 seperate parts. Obviously you have the pop and slide down, next after you pop and slide you want to bring your knees to your chest, then as you do that you want to raise your torso up. For me swinging my arms up as i jump helped me get my ollies higher. Also please please PLEASE! make an ollie video i would love to watch that! 3) i love how you said finding new places to skate. Except for a SKATE PARK! Girl, get to a skate park where there are other skaters who have the experience youre looking for. I work at a skate park and i can PROMISE you, someone there will see you and come over and HELP you. I'm not trying to push you into anything but i can tell you i got alot better once i went to a park found my people and had them teach me what they knew. I am still asking for help to this day and im a full grown human, skaters wil help skaters i promise.

I watched a Ricky video on ollies and I can't remember if it was a full on tutorial on how to do it or if it was one of those "what you are doing wrong" videos but I found out from that video I had the wrong foot position on my tail when I pop the board. Ollies are still not consistent but it's getting there. Ended up just doing a ton of ollies on the dirt in the trail I skate and felt it helped a lot since it helped me just focus on the motion of popping, jumping, and sliding. I think once I get them more consistent and also maybe not turning my board or moving it back as much, I will go for moving ollies or I might just go for moving ollies after I get the consistency since for some people it's easier to do ollie while moving. My fs pivots were lowkey getting better and I didn't even notice until my last session on Sunday. Love the progress videos, honestly feel its necessary so others can see that it is normal to have to keep practicing and failing to learn.

i think the best exercise for having a control over the board and learning the mechanics is a tiktak. You want to be able to ride without pushing, doing bigger turnovers, even 360s ; while learning that part, notice how important your shoulders are. They are always leading your direction of moving. That's a big intro to all of the 180, 360 ollies, to freestyle, street or transition skating.

Great video and great progress! Definitely need to dust off my board again aswell... Used to skate nearly daily for like 8-10yrs, but due to talent somewhere in the negative, i never moved far beyond pop-shuvits and ollies. One thing i saw though that you could work on is your positioning of the front foot. If you keep your front foot in riding direction, you automatically twist your hip and upper body. This ultimately makes it harder later on when you start doing kickflips etc. while riding. So i would recommend getting comfortable twisting your front foot 90° and only have it in riding direction when pushing... Only downside of this is, that the shoe budget suddenly needs to get bigger - most shoe changes i made while skating was because the sole (and some times the sock) was sanded through from doing it right underneath the ball of the foot. ^^

Keep digging deep, laugh of "faliures", try agin, try again, try again & most important of all keep having fun with it ! You're doing great and skating sometimes feels unforgiveingly hard, but that's why it's great. I can recomend learning the trick "Caveman" to. You already kinda done it. it's a good beginner trick that feels great and looks cool aswell. As you progress it still feels great to do imo. Jump of a curb, jump of a planter, jump of a dumbster, jump down a couple of stairs, maybe one day jump of a building :)

Regarding Ollie. The biggest advice I've ever got is. Try to make similar motion to jumping over something sideways. Jumping sideways will help you drag the board so. This will make your Ollie smoother, cleaner, higher and help you land it easier.

23 years ago my friends and I went everywhere on our boards. I wasn't ever great. Life came in I had kids, and I stopped skating. About a month ago my 15 year old daughter told me she wants to learn how to skate. So I went out bought her a board, then realized how much I missed it and how much has changed holy shit. Anyways stick with it you're doing awesome.
