I watch a lot of battle reports and yours are by far my favorite, you go fast and give great insight where it matters and is helpful. I like that you skip over stuff that is inconsequential so that it doesn't take an hour so please keep it up

Thanks again for the battle report. There is a lot of talk about the Ratling guns. I've used them too out of necessity. I still have trouble with them against Stormcast - since there is some talk that a nerf could come .. I wish they would give the original Jezzail rules back at the same time - or somehow find a way to balance all the guns so we feel that there is some point to choosing other options rather than sacrificing doing well for the sake of fun. Well, I've created a Vissik / prayer list that has been working well for me. I still use 6 rattling guns, but it's really hard not to.

I feel like going for seize the centre T1 was a bit of a blunder for Sylvaneth. It basically meant that all of their mobile units got tagged immediately

Yeah in hindsight doing seize the centre wasn´t a good choice, especially since he had good alternatives: his gossamids would have bagged him do not Waver. Or he could have done the order one for a unit in each quadrant

@@enterthemancave6324 I think two factors that made the blunder worse was (1) forgetting about always 3 clawsteps ahead + countercharge and (2) putting the faction terrain in a location that makes a charge->pile in possible

i love that you try something different, im already sick of ratling guns and i probably havent played them as much as you. i dont mind having some shooting but it being the main thing is not for me and not what got me into skaven. im trying stuff but in the end i kind of know that taking 6 ratling guns wouldve been just better. i hope they fix that soon, still hoping for my stormvermin to be good and finally get a role and an actual warscroll ability as their current one is worthless. however im just glad to watch some battle reports, if its not always 12-18 ratlings im more than fine when you play them sometimes, especially if that means more reports

Interesting. Surprised Alariel wasn't shown in this. I did like how you decided to deal with the trees. Good advice. I would have loved to seen you put some stormvermin, nightrunners, and Deathmaster, with the Rend Faction ability. Vizzik and a plaguepacks. I feel like people are missing out. Throw in a Greyseer and some Doomflayers like you did. Fun list with lots of tools. Even using the Doom manifestations would be fundamental Skaven stuff. I hope you stick with skaven. I'd love to see what you would do vs. the rush/bully Daughters of Khaine list, that block the gnawholes.

I actually started filming that on this one, but it got really long-winded so I cut it out. The short story on this one was: - Deceiver + Doom-flayers on the terrain so they can't be shot and can contest that bottom right obj. - Night Runners on both corners pushing out to screen/get on objectives. I want them to take the first hit when my opponent comes in. - Clanrats top left behind the Night Runners so they can push onto the objective and take it back turn 2 supported by Ratling Guns. I thought he was going to make me go first and then push that way with his Spiteriders. - Thanquol leaning that same way, with monks in the middle just to screen/contest my home or middle if I need to sacrifice something.

Another great battle report! I've stopped using plage monks as they get whipped before doing any sort of damage anyway. Also couple of question: you can do 'Always 3 Claws step ahead' at the beginning of the game? Because it says 'Pick a friendly non-Monster Skaven unit that is not in combat and was not set up this turn to use this ability.' So as it is the first turn I would think you could not move them yet. Also, regarding putting the Gnawhole next to the Awakened Wyldwood, wouldn't you need to be 9" away from it? Or is it okay because it got the faction terrain key word?

For Monks vs. Clanrats, right now in my experience both get full wiped when they get charged right now, so either do the job of screening once. Then for this specific list I just didn't have 10 extra points to turn them into Clanrats! For 3Claw you can definitely use it turn 1 during the opponent's hero phase! Your units are set up during deployment, not during that turn, so they're free to move. And lastly, for the Gnawhole, just 3" away from terrain, the trees don't count as a unit!

I love you battle reports. The Sylvaneth player did a lot of bad moves tho 1_ not giving you t1 2_ taking the center leaving his army locked in terrible spot 3_ Belthanos is too easy to take down, he should never get exposed so much 4_ main thing taking lancers and Belthanos is getting a fierce charge somewhere and charge sametime elsewhere to strike twice before represaille. 5_ just giving away his gossamid wasnt worth it. 6_ his forest helped you charged in, it was too deep. 7_ belthanos didn't pick a terrain to be a wyldwood ( i think ) 8_ didnt play with manifestations with 4 lvl spells was huge mistake. Happy he scored as much considering the number of mistakes, I think the mal helped him a lot with burning things away ^^ You play very well, I hope to see more of your battlerep 😊

I did! I just forgot to set it up while doing the recap. At 20:19 you see me set up two because I forgot, but the turn 1 Gnawhole was placed behind the top left objective. I thought he may send the Spiteriders over that way, so I wanted to have a Gnawhole on that side for Ratlings to pop through and shoot.

Two questions, in a previous battle report you said Deceiver had to attack the faction terrain if inside 3" and no other enemy models, is this a rule? And regarding the honor guard rule, if in a tournament can we then change what we choose between battles?

Honour Guard is chosen after deployment is done, so you can absolutely switch it up! For being within combat range of a faction terrain piece, if you're within 3" you do have to fight it per the rules. Keep in mind you don't have to pile-in though! So if it's a big unit you just have to swing with the models in range.

If you run a Warp-Grinder and Stormfiends on the same list and you use Tunnel Skulkers on them so that they are in reserve, could you use the Grinderfist Tunnelers ability, and if so, would the Stormfiends basically teleport when the Warp-Grinder uses Warp-Ambush?

Simultaneous effects you get to choose the order, so you'd try to trigger the Warp-grinder first, then if you failed you could use the Stormfiends regular ability to pop up.

Bottom of round three, end of turn reinforcement, how did the nightrunners that were spawned in wind up on the objective with an enemy unit standing on it? Why weren't they stuck 9" away? (Nice battle report, and agreed on the tiredness of ratling guns!)

For Skaven recursion you have to set up wholly within 6" of a Gnawhole and only outside of 3" of enemy models!

Hello, Thank you for this great battle report, it's nice to see something else than a spam of ratling guns ! What do you think about the nurgle regiments of renown ? The extra tanking seems to be nice despite losing the skaven allegiance for them. The harbinger isn't the best addition but its once per battle ability seems nice.

The Nurgle regiment is really good and seeing lots of play in other armies! For Skaven it's tough to give up 500 points on something that doesn't come back to life and can't 3Clawstep, but I'm sure there'd be a way to make them work regardless (especially if backed up by Ratlings).

@@GuillaumeFagart Stormfiends are still solid! The deepstrike is generally good for trying to deny tactics and hit back lines; there are people running big 6 man squads of them and seeing some success. For me on a personal level the top meta armies like Tzeentch, Lumineth, and Nighthaunt are all pretty tough for Stormfiends to deal with between the -1 to hit and ethereal saves.

The Scourgers are equally as good, the Warpfire Throwers you run into issues Gnawholing them around and shooting because they can just Redeploy out of range easily. You definitely could ditch the big guys and get something else, but the big guys are what makes the game fun for me and they're still pretty competitive so sticking with em!

At 17:24 instead of skitterleaping into obscuring couldn’t you have teleported next to the ‘take their land’ terrain and then 3 clawsteps the greyseer within 3” of it as well to deny the tactic. I don’t know much abt sylvaneth tho so maybe they had some way to teleport with Kurnoth and shoot him if u did that?

With the Lady of Vines she counts as a tree for their Battle Traits, the worry would be if he auto or just big ran her towards me the bows could potentially get in range. You're right that if he didn't I could have denied the tactic, but I wanted to play it safe with him knowing I'd need him late game.

It seems giving away first turn is again a normal move? The first turn battle tactic is getting hard and seize the centre is parhaps the main choice? Do skaven have other good choices for first turn battle tactic, assuming you are not able to simple shoot everything to bits...

I'm typically doing Seize in most games if given turn 1 with Night Runners + Deceiver, but with the Runners Seize is also an easy option on most maps.

I agree with u abt the rattling canons and that they are not fun to play with or against but at least they are keeping skaven competitive. Without them skaven would for sure a bottom tier army. As someone who has only ever taken skaven to tournaments and been playing them for 7 years I am happy that I can take them to the world championship and not feel extremely disadvantaged. Also I find my games lots of times are very close even with the oppressive shooting just because we are really not tanky and if they can kill the shooters my list at least has no more real damage threats. Most of my games by turn 3/4 I have almost nothing left. I am 15-0 since using rattling cannons tho so maybe the games weren’t as close as the board state made it seem.

I was definitely expecting him to make me go first in this one, but if I had to guess, I think the Night Runners pre-game move made him take the turn. Then keep in mind the opponent has to choose the battle tactic before I do my 3Claw, so in this one he just didn't see the 3Claw + Counter-charge coming. Everybody makes mistakes sometimes, myself included!

I think wishing for Skaven to be competitive really was a monkeys paw wish. Yes we can win games relatively well at competitive events, but it's heavily relying on Ratling Gun spam. Which is extremely unfun to play with and against. They definitely need nerfs and much of our other units need points decreases or warscroll changes.

Do I think it should happen? Absolutely. With GW though you just never know, our win-rate hasn't spiked to dangerous levels so there's a chance they just leave it as is.

There are many BR where they show dice rolls.. this format is pretty unique and super fast. It gives all the tactical information you need to understand the game. Don't change it : )
