I read a BBC article about her and cried. I was ultra-right racist when I was younger too. It was not until I had non-political conversations with people whose race and political views I hated and disdained that I slowly started to break out of my little bubble and open my ears to listen to their stories. It was scary at first to feel my belief and understanding of the world crumbling down, but it felt cathartic to let go of my hate towards others. I have deep respect for people like Angela. Her story is powerful and relevant today more than ever with everything that’s going on.

There is a site named Life After Hate. It's formed by former extremists who are attempting to rebuild their lives and helping others on the same situation.

It’s the exact same story as in the movie American History X. The change came from someone showing them that they were another human being, not hating them for what they had done to land themselves in prison. I’d love to see her story made into a film. I think a story from a girl’s/woman’s perspective would help a lot of females and anyone really, who were brought up with hate, a bully or anyone harbouring any feelings of being above another based on the other’s skin colour or religion. Very inspiring and hopeful interview :)

Yeah... This healing process will take time... No doubt about it! But if, as a species, we fail... Then Our Game in this Universe... Is Over... In my humble opinion, the stakes are THAT high... Nonetheless, so long as the essence of "Humanity" exists... We have a fighting chance against those cancerous tumours, who want to obliterate us all, including themselves, from existence!

The funny thing is I was just like her except unlike her I didn’t hate people because of their race I hated them because of their religion only when I got in school that I finally see that just because you’re a different religion doesn’t mean you’re not different than anyone else it’s just your beliefs are different and this coming from a Muslim man who was born and raised in the US

Melissa McCarthy already performed that role. It was called "Sean Spicer Press Conference" on SNL.

Hate groups in the Country are run by lost and hurt people neglected and damaged by the education system in America, who then lead others who share the same hurt and are just as lost. How do we neutralize these hurtful patterns from society? Im my opinion, while I truly believe in the power that tolerance and love hold in this world and above all the power of redemption for our fellow humans, I must say we need to take take this situation more offensively and proactively educating and training the youth in the EXERCISE of empathy and compassion. Those two things are skills that need to be learned and trained. They are not always inherent in humans, and just as racism and bigotry are taught, so can these. I believe that ANTIRACIST (not just the wrongs of our past, but actively refuting racist fallacy) Education that places emphasis on compassion for humanity, the importance of Democracy in relation to race, and critical thinking, should be taught aggressively and with sincerity in schools, from a young age until early adulthood, with one on one coaching for students who may exhibit the markers for radical and violent racism. All forms of racism, radical and non-radical, nonviolent racism, is a threat to the Democracy of our Nation as it leads to corruption of EVERY American citizen liberties outlined in the constitution, paves the way for Fascistic Authoritarian rulership, the dissolution of all American’s freedoms, and the murder and violence against those its victimizes. It is not enough that schooling only teaches students about racism and slavery as a small “oopsy” long gone to the past. I believe that the importance of these ideals of compassion, critical thinking, empathy and Constitutional rights, must take over the current American curriculum that only emphasizes test scoring, “just say no to drugs” philosophy, and short-sided college preparation. I am calling on our nation’s law makers to help create this vision into reality.

Thank you for this video. So educating and helpful. Yes, it builds up gradually.... the family background and personal insecurities are to start that. .... Great that Angela stands up and helps out others, she is the genuine "expert" of the issue.

What a wonderful human being. I just recently had an interaction in my practice that I wish I had had better tools to handle. I am now revisiting it and trying to gain those tools. I believe i will have another opportunity and this person was a step to educate me. I will handle it differently next time. These hate groups empower angry people with little direction on the internet. We must all gain skills of tolerance and love if we are to survive. Bless you Angela King.

All this is brilliant in theory. But when these radicalized folks come to you for counseling they need a specific approach. In most cases they are proud of their radicalization and have a certain contempt that has been part of their training....At the core they are very wounded and drawn to a powerful group because they wanted commeraderie and someone to blame..So they have layers of emotions. On top of that they aren't inclined to speak about any of this. But they may tell you how proud they are of their hate. Of they may say if they had the choice they might have broke someone's neck. I learned all this in a crash course. As a middle aged white lady it would have helped to have resources like these for when the time was right. I would say traditional emotive approaches don't work. I learned a lot very fast. I justcwasnt directly trained for this...Glad to have these resources. They are so helpful.
