For many years I lived 50 miles from Skeggy and remembering visiting on a number occasions. All men and women dressed smartly. I could weep, what have we allowed to happen to our country.

Totally agree Visited last week and the place is so dirty and depressing now. "Dross" chav clientele everywhere. A sad reflection of today's society.

My grandmother had a boarding house in Skegness from the 1930s to 1960s. She had many an interesting story to tell. Mum had a lovely childhood growing up there in the 1950s and was Miss Skegness 1960. I also have wonderful childhood memories of Skegness and still go there for holidays

That lady taking a nap while she has her handbag by her side. That would have been pinched from her today.

I caught several views of Grenville Staple's mother in the piece about the Skegness Landlady Larks and one of Brian Dexters wife and a few views of other people I knew in those days.

No illegal migrants taking up the hotel space in those days. I remember my whole family, aunts, uncles, cousins, my parents all having a great holiday together in caravans at Skegness in 1958. My mam used to look after the photo booth at Butlins and my dad maintained arcade machines, i just had fun. I still have the photos of my long departed relatives in Skeggy, Great memories.❤

Did you ever know Johnny Tynan O'Mahony, who was a Redcoat for many years, and the camp tramp, and worked in the arcades in the off-season?
@kenneths15856 ай бұрын
@Lee-nh5bb I didn't know him, although my parents may have done. I was very young at the time so only have selected memories. I just remember the great time with my extended family at Skegness.

@@kenneths1585 Thanks for your reply. I only asked because Johnny was Dave Allen's brother and they were both redcoats at various Butlins. I'm reading a biography of Dave Allen's at the moment.

Donkey racing. Can you imagine if that happened today. Dozens of hi-viz wearing council officials would descend on that beach to shut it down, closely followed by a convoy of Police cars and Jeremy Corbyn in a fully loaded Stuka.
