WOW! I've been struggling trying to synthesize all of the information I've been learning about action potentials and muscle contractions while in medical school. This video is extremely helpful! Thank you so much!!!

Wendy, this topic is a very hard one, cz it has many steps involved. I gave up on my book, closed it and hoped Wendy could save me and thats how I landed here. My concepts of this chapter are clear and A1 now cz of you.Lots of love from UK ❤

You did shave off about 9 minutes from the last video, but you left out my favorite part: that the sarcoplasmic reticulum is "Calcium Jail!" Love your videos! They are really helping me out in my Physio this semester. : )

wendy i need help can you please put the neuromuscular junction in order .an action potential reaches the motor axon terminal its an online quiz for class, no matter which order i put it in its wrong ty .acetylocholine binds to acetyhlcholine receptors .the muscle fiber becomes more positively charged .acetylcholine diffuse across the synaptic cleft .an action potential runs alone the entire sarcolemma including the t-tubules .voltage-gated calcium channels opens .calcium ions enter the axon terminal .synaptic vesicles fuse with axon terminal membrane .cations enter the muscle fiber across the endplate membrane .sacrolemma generates an action potential adjacent to the endplate

so i'm a cj major who decided to take 300 lvl anatomy for some reason, maybe i'm into academic S&M. So i'm a total doofus in class with a bunch of pre-med geniuses (nerds). my wife noted how it almost sounds like you're talking to grade schoolers in this video. i told her i like it because it makes me feel like you made this video for my stupid ass and it gives me hope that i will pass this class.

Does anyone know, is it technically incorrect to call what is being called a ”depolarization wave” an ”action potential” or travelling action potential? If so, I'm having trouble understand the difference, is it because while it is still a travelling electrical impulse, only neurons themselves can carry APs so it's just a terminology thing?
@stephtenne4021
@stephtenne4021 6 жыл бұрын
PleasanceLiddle in the class I am in the we refer to the "depolarization wave" as an end plate potential, or EPP. I understand that it is not an action potential because there is no threshold. The end plate potential actually triggers an ACTION potential, which travels across the sarcolemma and into the T tubules, opening voltage gated calcium channels in the terminal cisternae.

So does calcium go into the sarcoplasmic reticulum AND goes out?
@savannahxyz652
@savannahxyz652 8 жыл бұрын
+Skyler Wilson calcium is stored in the sarcoplasmic reticulum; it leaves only to change the conformation of troponin/allow the bare zone to close, then the ions return to the SR after contraction to await another action potential.

+Zak Davis i love them....I'm actually getting into physiology (and anatomy). In fact, I sit through my boring and confusing professor's lectures at MY college - all the while thinking... "Wendy, save me and explain this crap!!" When she goes off on these videos...I GET it! And then with her enthusiasm? I am hooked.
