i suggested to Star Wars Explained that after KB's reveal in 1x6, this Goonieseque show has now veered into Wizard of Oz territory. Each character seeking specific traits: courage (Lion/Neel), heart & life (Tin Man/KB), home & empathy (Dorothy/Vern), brain & discipline (Scarecrow/Wim), Wizard facade = Supervisor behind the curtains.

The real unsung hero of this episode is Bryce Dallas Howard, she demonstrates what can be achieved by clear and concise direction from someone who has passion for the project and actually knows what they're doing. Ron has taught her well. Beautiful ship btw.

She has the best mentor. I commented to my son that this episode seemed long but then he told me that no it was actually pretty short yet somehow Bryce Dallas Howard was able to pack so much information and so much going on in one episode with the right amount of storytelling where it didn't seem awkward. We learn more about kb, we got a pirate shanty, and we saw what that button did and got a cool looking ship. Not only that but trash crabs!! Oh and The Goonies throwback to the slide where they split up. So much in such a short time. Awesome episode!!

The Onyx Cinder shedding its outer hull to escape the garbage claws reminded me of the Expanse, when they disguised the ship as a gas hauler and shed the disguise to escape docking clamps. Maybe Jod didn't initially recognize the Onyx Cinder because the outer hull was both armor and a disguise?

I also appreciate this being in Star Wars as it can bring some excitement to new ships being introduced and old ones being used in an upgraded double plated armour is a cool thought since I’m now thinking of ways to hide the millennium falcon and upgrade it in the same manner

Jod giving that speech to try and save his own butt from the other pirates really reminded me of Han and how he was always talking himself out of trouble, usually unsuccessfully, 😂, but he ended up getting away with whatever he’s in trouble for. Jod’s speech and his mannerisms were just what you’d expect from a person like him or Solo. I think Jod will even end up having kind of a redemption arc to his story in the same way that Han’s character did.

Easily missed but now that the outter hull has been removed the ship bears a striking similarity to the X70B from the Old Republic era but upgraded with larger engines and a more angular nose. These were manufactured by the remnant Sith Empire following the Hyperspace War with the prototypes specifically reserved for Imperial Intelligence and designed to look like a harmless luxury cruiser.

9.8 (I wanted it to be longer) the excitement of the episode made it seem even shorter. Loved the ship reveal and the KB arc. Also loved that Neel was the one to get Fern to see they couldn’t all keep up with her and that she solved it. Loved that Wym got to be a hero.

Happy New Year Mike! I enjoyed this episode, thought it was a great springboard for what’s yet to come. Gave us a lot to work with and think about with the kids and their dynamic with each other. I found the trash barges to be interesting, where are they coming from(bringing the trash from)? I noticed a storm trooper helmet being hauled by one of the crabs. This may be a hint to everyone’s favorite mystery, how Maz got Luke’s saber? Trash diving? The Onyx shedding/ breaking down to a smaller ship reminded me of the Tumbler breaking down to the Batcycle in “The Dark Knight”

Loved the episode. I’d rate it an 8 out of 10! Loved the characters from TLJ! The nod to Qui-Gon’s line! I loved the kids acting and their characters development in this episode! This show is doing what Disney Star Wars series have been unable to do in a long time and that is get better with each episode. It is hard to believe that this lives in the same universe as the Acolyte. There is nothing woke about it, no real life political agendas thrown in, none of that crap from the Acolyte. This is what George Lucas Star Wars was. A feel good adventure for both kids and adults with some nice character moments thrown in for good measure. Loving this show so far.

KB's been the most interesting character for me since the start of the show and I was so glad that we've finally got an episode that's more or less centered around her, they really made her shine. Now I can definitely say that she's my favorite! I also really liked the kids finally spending more time with the kid that isn't their best friend, a really neat way to develop their characters as you said. Now, I'm wondering if we'll see a repeat of the first scene in EP 1 with Jod and the pirates, maybe the opposite will happen and he'll finally lead them to a vault full of credits, would be a nice parallel IMO. And hopefully he gets the lightsaber back, would love to see it used in the last two episodes.

I know shows have higher production values and cost more to produce but conversely they also make more money. Pretty soon new seasons are going to be so short they'll just air them on freaking tik tok.

There are deeply cynical reasons for truncated seasons and limited runs of 2-3 seasons max. It's basically the studio's method of curbing payroll for crew, the writers and cast. The way that most of these labor contracts work the crew gets guaranteed hourly raises each time a season is renewed, for each completed episode the studio is also usually required to make a contribution to pension and healthcare funds. Also for rebroadcast its common that cast and occasional the directors to receive residual payment for their work. less seasons, fewer raises. less episodes, less healthcare and pension cost, confining broadcast to streaming services less residual profit share. Effectively the studios have found a way to subsidize their production and distribution costs by shorting the people who actually make the shows. Its why there's been a noticeable decline in the quality of media across the board. By making it more difficult to earn and limiting the opportunity for crews to enhance their skills with time spent on the job itself.

@ under most circumstances, strikes can be delayed indefinitely, as long as the studios continue to negotiate the crew and cast can continue to work under the previously agreed contract. studios force those strikes by refusing to even hold meetings to negotiate. when SAG authorized a strike by vote the studios waited over a 100 days to hold a single meeting. No one in a union really wants a strike but they do expect fair negotiation, the studios often refuse to even speak directly to union reps and business agents who draft the contracts. it's sad and i hope it changes. leadership among the studios and the unions have become stagnant maybe the next generation will have be able to solve it.

That is a good catch. Gatchaman is my all time favorite. When Rhino made that series that had the BotP/G-Force episodes along with the Original Japanese versions. It was Amazing. Princess really being more like Spock than just a panty flashing sidekick for Mark. And Jason's whole side story, I never knew he was Italian. And the Zoltar is a hermaphrodite WTF?!?! Lol. Except once you take out credits, the actual story time is 20-30 minutes per episode. Say 25 average, x8, so it’s like a 2 hour movie, which is actually quite short by modern standards. I love the series, but really wish Disney would give us longer episodes.

I liked the focus on the kids and KB especially. I would have been more satisified if there was more of a consequence for Fern...like her arriving and seeing KB almost die and feel helpless and cry.I think that could've worked and have had more emotional weight...also that way, all the kids would've experienced Wim's hero moment... just a thought. It was still cool as it played out. Also, like the crash course in sand casting that KB gave to WIM. 😁

This a really cool show. I bet this would’ve been even better if it was released as a movie. I’ll binge watch this once all the episodes are out even though I’ve watched every show already. I think watching them one after the other will be pretty cool in my opinion. 🤷🏻‍♂️

@ That’s awesome! It’s cool to hear from a newer Star Wars fan that doesn’t hate everything that Disney puts out! I wish I could go back and watch A New Hope in the movie theater like I did as a kid. I’ve been a fan since then and though it might not be perfect, I still find something enjoyable about any new Star Wars show. Glad to meet another fan! 👍👍

I did a rewatch of the season before last night’s episode. What a show! (Also rewatched all of Ahsoka to prepare for this show.) Star Wars is having a moment. Hopefully the fans will catch up with this show once all the episodes are out.

@@jhank708 That’s cool man…I’ve been bingeing on Mando season 1 and 2 the last couple days. I’m gonna watch BOBF next I think. I’ve already binge watched Andor 3 times and I haven’t watched BOBF in awhile. I’m a disabled and retired old dude now, 24 years in the Marine Corps. I love that I can have the time to enjoy these shows whenever I want! And I’m lucky enough to be single so I don’t have anyone to stop me! 😅. Maybe in a few years I’ll feel like going and working for someone. But for now I’m going to enjoy being a lazy azz. I’ve never had that luxury before! 😊

The old Onyx looked way cooler but the new one is sleak and clean at least lol another great episode to a great show. I missed 33 but his one scene was pretty funny.

The Old Onyx or should I say Mad Max Makeover looked like a badass Star Wars ship, the original Sleek Onyx looks like a Japanese Anime ship; I prefer the Old Onyx, hopefully SM33 takes it to Pelle on Tattoine for a refit
