Sean Chandler gave The Skeleton Crew a glowing review yesterday as he’s seen the first three episodes. I guess you can say TSC is making up the disappointment from The Acolyte so far. The keywords are “so far.” I haven’t seen it yet. I did watch The Goonies last night to prepare myself from getting in the mood…. *The* *Goonies* *(1985)* To me, this is a grade A kids’ movie that still holds up. I keep forgetting Robert Davi is in it. Between The Goonies, The Sandlot, Super 8, and Stranger Things, The Goonies is the closest to how kids talked in the 80s. How they dressed. Closest to capturing my childhood nostalgia. The Sandlot came out in 1993 but was set in the 1960s. Super 8 was JJ Abrams’ tribute to Spielberg’s movies like Close Encounters and E.T., was set in 1979 but was released in 2011. Super 8 is probably the closest to the look and feel of The Goonies. Kids around 1979 did banter like that. Then Stranger Things is for Gen Z but I don’t believe it captures the 80s as well. The technology they have is way beyond what the true 1980s had. Don’t sleep on Flight of the Navigator (1986). Another charming 80s kids movie. The Goonies came out in 1985, the story was written and produced by Steven Spielberg, and it’s the essential 80s kids movie because it’s not traveling 10-30 years back. That’s how they talked and dressed and it was released in the decade it represents. I remember thinking as a kid, what the hell is a goonie? Isn’t a goon a bad person? Now I just think of a goonie as a child adventurer. A young treasure hunter. My favorite Goonie is Jeff Cohen’s Chunk. Childhood obesity! Jeff is a skinny guy now and grew up to become a lawyer. Is Ke’s lawyer. He’s the funniest Goonie followed by Mouth and maybe Data or Bran. “Is your mommy home?” “No, she’s down at the market to buy Pampers for all us kids.” But the best line came from Data…. [watches goons carrying a BODY bag into the back of a car] “I’m wondering, what’s in the bag?” 🤣🤣 Better than the booby/booty traps line or his $50 dolla bill. I listened to the DVD commentary in the early 00s, and both Martha Plimpton and Kerri Green, egged Ke to say it again. That wasn’t intentional to be funny. I know Ke was kinda getting mocked for that line, but he was kind enough to say it again. I was watching Scrooged (1988) for the first time in my life last night and recognized an actress I had seen before. Then I watch The Goonies right after and realize it’s the actress portraying Bran and Mikey’s mom! I didn’t know she passed away already in 2015 from pancreatic cancer. RIP to Mary Ellen Trainor Josh Brolin obviously had the best acting career out of that Goonie bunch. A new generation now sees him as Thanos. Then Cable. And in the DVD audio commentary done in 2001 when they’re all sitting there and watching it next to the late Richard Donner, he’s actually quite a funny guy. He’s very witty. The most grown up among them all as Josh was born in 1968. Kerri is actually older by a year. My Favorite Goonies 1. Chunk (Jeff Cohen) 2. Mouth (Corey Feldman) 3. Data (Ke Huy Quan) 4. Bran (Josh Brolin) 5. Mikey (Sean Astin) 6. Andy (Kerri Green) 7. Stef (Martha Plimpton) Hey, no diss to Martha as Stef. She’s also quite hilarious in the audio commentary. Ashley from The Boys reminds me a lot of Martha Plimpton. Kerri Green got more beautiful as she got older. She’s 57 and maybe passed her prime, but she was still hot in her 40s. Her other big movie was Lucas (1986) with Corey Haim and Charlie Sheen. I love the story of Ana de Armas telling Jimmy Fallon not recognizing Ke Huy Quan from The Goonies the first time they took a selfie. The Goonies weren’t the original kids gang. It dates back to Our Gang aka The Little Rascals back in the 1920s. But The Goonies remains timeless even nearly 40 years later like Back to the Future is. There’s a certain magic from the 80s that will never go away for future generations. “Hey you, guys!” “Goonies never say die.” “I’m wondering, what’s in the bag?” 🤣🤣 “The Goonies ‘R’ Good Enough” kzbin.info/www/bejne/iZTYaWR7jJmIeZosi=FX_8fE815Xq287oP Four waters. Is that all? No! I want the veal scalopini. Shut up Mouth. I want a good fettucini alfredo. I want a bottle of fettucine, a 1981. The only thing we serve is tongue.

I'm 51 and this show is near perfect star wars. I felt ET vibes. I can't name one thing that wasn't good. The dialogs make it even better. They really say something and not the over serious crap from previous stuff. I watched both episodes 3 times in 24 hours.

I loved how they did the opening text, it was like the intro to an old sci-fi comic. That style should be the standard opening for any of the Star Wars shows.

Loved it - In the future this will be the perfect entry point for kids to get into Star Wars. I saw Star Wars when it first came out, I was six, and I fell in love with it. If I saw this show when I was six I'd have the same reaction. Finally a show that adults and kids alike can enjoy (much like the original trilogy). You can tell that the makers of it grew up with Star Wars and want to create that same magic they felt.

At Atan seems to be compeltely unaware that the Republic gave way to the Galactic republic, then the empire and now the New Republic. This means they have been separated from the galaxy for at least a 1000 years.......MUST. KNOW. MORE. On another note, I sat down with my wife and kids last night (12 and 9) and we all loved every frame of the show. It was such blast. Cannot wait for more.

The kids' casting is great, I wasn't sure when the first reviews called it a "Spielberg Star Wars", but the execution is top notch (I would prefer less Spielberg though) and elephant sidekick came straight from the Spiderman. Very pleasant surprise

I didn’t enjoy the trailers for this show. Maybe this was because of my hatred for the acolyte I was ready to throw the towel in with everything to do with new Star Wars content. Maybe this blinding my judgement on the trailers for skeleton crew. I watched the first two episodes this morning after the good reviews came in and I immediately clicked with it, the show was so captivating and entertaining that I couldn’t stop smiling all the way through the episodes felt like I was back in the world of Star Wars with a unique twist on it. The characters are great the story is really good the vision and writing are really strong. But also how it’s directed how it’s set up it does so many good things I really hope it can keep this up and almost become a sleeper hit like Agatha with fans

I'm in the minority but I'm not a fan of the Goonies/E.T/1980's suburbia in space vibe. Once again, Disney cheaps out on the runtimes. And we again seem to be presented with yet another Jedi that "somehow" avoided Order 66. That being said, I am intrigued by the apparent mystery of At-Attin and how they seem to be cut off from the rest of the galaxy - I hope this gets paid off in a satisfactory fashion. It does look nice, it's generally well acted & the music is good. Despite some minor story/continuity issues it was entertaining and I'll watch to the end.
@JustWasted3HoursHere8 сағат бұрын
I had not heard that it was compared to The Goonies, which is funny because that's exactly how I described it to my friends after watching the first two episodes. So, on-point for that comparison. After just the first two episodes I already think it's better than the entire one and only (probably) season of The Acolyte. I didn't hate The Acolyte as much as some people (though it has many problems), but this is much better. Andor is still the best Star Wars series so far though, hands down IMO. Can't wait for season two starting April 22, 2025!

The answer is sense of wonder. No "we gonna change everything you know about the jedi", no "sad old man Obi wan", no depressed Ahsoka. Just what has always worked with Star Wars. Sense of wonder, thats what worked even in Force Awakens, we had Rey, new to the wide universe, spark eyes, amazed with the jedi, with everything. Something that they immediatly throw away for the sequels. Star Wars needs a sense of wonder, of mistery, good mistery, not "everything is horrible" mistery. Even the darkest movie of the original trilogy had a sense of wonder. A city in the clouds, an old wise master that do jokes but hides an immense power. Yes, now and then is good to change a bit, with Rogue One, with Andor, but those moments should be the exception not the rule. I hope they keep this tone and the series is a hit and disney finnaly learns that about Star Wars. We dont want everything we know about the jedis to be change, we want heros, we want a samurai, a gunslinger in a western. We want adventure.

Of course there's a couple exceptions like ET. The Lost Boys. Arguably the Best Vampire movie That's about it. Goonies, Stranger Things, Modern Ghost Busters Ghosts. IT ect... eh... I take that back I do enjoy the kids in the MiniSeries IT a little bit, I can stomach that. But yeah. I'm hoping Skeleton Crew with be another Exception. The main Reason I'm watching is cause of Jon Watts or however he spells his name, I love his Spiderman Movies so. Hopefully so... Hopefully this will be no different, at least... John, I am really getting sick of you bashing Obi Wan. Obi Wan was awesome. It had the best light saber fight ever. It was personal. It finished perfectly. The relationship between Obi Wan and Lea was great. That little girl did a fantastic job playing a young princess. It was a very personal story and concluded setting up the final conflict between Darth and Obi Wan.
