17:50 the holographic circus is not "footage taken directly from the Holiday Special", like you said. This is completely newly produced footage, accuratly recreating the scene from the Holiday Special. They at first tried to use the original footage from 1978, but that (being a TV production from the 70s) was not high definition enough. So they searched the archives for informations on the costumes etc. and recreated that scene from scratch.

@ScreenCrush - Lots of mistakes here: * Neel is not an Ortolan. This was confirmed by Lucasfilm.... though we are not told his Species. As a note Ortolans don't have mouths and only have two limbs that act as feet and hands. * The Orange Alien in the classroom is just a Rodian with a different color of skin. The Kid that looks like a mix of a "Rodian and a Bat" is just a Rodian with some "Rodian hair" or whatever. * At-Attin is a project of the Old Republic, NOT the New Republic. This is made even more clear in the 2nd Episode. I.E. Wim's money bears the Republic crest seen in the Prequels and Clone Wars, NOT the Imperial or New Republic crest. I'll leave the rest for later as other references will come in EP 2. * The "Head tails" part of the Mural is an adult of the same species as Neel.

I think At Attin as a whole has existed since the High Republic and has no idea of the events of the galaxy since then, either by design or by accident, thanks to whatever the planets barrier is made of. I think the planets is part of a "great work" from that time, and they have no idea about the New Republic or the Empire.

For sure, but we so far know that people from outside At Attica think it's a myth. My guess so far is the people that run the planet hid it somehow during the High Republic days to protect it from outside sources (maybe the Nihil) with this barrier they talked about. Maybe the adults keep the kids out of the loop until they are old enough to continue the tradition of keeping the planet secret or something. It's still the early days of the New Republic, but they talk about being part of it like it's been going on for some time, so im guessing they are still part of the original Republic. We will just have to see how much anybody knows about it.
@bercio

I agree! Undersecretary Fara specifically says the Republic, not the New Republic… nor is there any evidence of CS, Imperial, or Rebel influence on At-Attin so far. I suspect they are living out of time and space, hidden by the Barrier.

I'm astonished you didn't mention that the tram based transport is a metaphor for telling the population to stay in their lane and don't divert from their set path, and that the kids are free because the only vehicles that can go off the path are the star Wars equivalent of a bicycle, just like Elliot in ET, the Goonies etc. For Lucas, bicycles = childhood freedom and self actualisation.

I think there are a lot of clues that the kids’ planet is not connected to the Old Republic and was probably overlooked by the Empire as well. Note at the end they are concerned about crossing “the barrier” which is just what they’ve been told is the sky. And they seem to have no conception of stars, thinking they’re looking at planets. Then in episode 2, which I will discuss here because it debuted the same night (but consider this a spoiler warning), the security droid tells the dad that starships are illegal. And then no one has heard of their planet, or consider it a myth. Plus the kids have Old Republic credits and think nothing of it. So it would seem whatever “the great work” is it isn’t rebuilding the Republic.
@MindTrickedX24
@MindTrickedX24 Ай бұрын
Right. Several statements made in this video are legitimately rendered null and void in the second episode, which is fine, but it's weird hearing them after they've already been disproven.
@trevorberridge6079
@trevorberridge6079 Ай бұрын
This whole barrier thing reminds me of Douglas Adam's Hitch-Hikers Guide To The Galaxy. A race of people called Krikkiters live on a planet surrounded by a dust cloud and never think to look up. They never talk about things being "beneath the sky" but rather "above the grass". They only discover that there are stars and worlds beyond their home world when a ship crashes onto their planet. They are then able to see the rest of existence and decide that it won't do. It all has to go. Having lived under the illusion that they are all alone in the firmament they decide to destroy everything else rather than accept the new reality. Their planet like At Attin is unknown to the rest of the Galaxy just as the Galaxy was unknown to them.
@Vader47000
@Vader47000 Ай бұрын
@@trevorberridge6079 That could be the inspiration for it, but At Attin does at least seem aware of some concepts of the greater galaxy, such as the Old Republic and the Jedi, and oddly what hyperspace is without knowledge of stars. The residents are probably being lied to by the government about "the barrier" so they won't leave, which makes the population easier to control through mandated careers assigned at a young age like we see through them testing the kids here. So it gives the illusion of freedom but through the lens of whatever "brainwashing" is going on at the schools.

Im willing to suspend disbelief for a while, in terms if the strange planet setting and their "Great work", whilst we start to uncover the mystery of whats happening there. Its different than what we've gotten from other Star Wars and im perfectly fine with that! I hope it ends up feeling like Andor. I thought that was just a really great story that mostly could have taken place in a number of universes, including ours in a nimber of time periods. And then with Star Wars stacked on top it was great. I want the same out of this.

I make a habit of watching ScreenCrush after every episode of a Star Wars related show because you provide details that fill in the blanks for those of us who aren't steeped in deep cut lore. It let's me look at the show with a different eye on second viewing. This show is clearly child orientated but I think it's sometimes condescending in the way it contrives situations and then jumps to being very grown up with the violence. You don't need to talk down to children. They will take from the show what they take and as they get older they will revisit the show and see something new in it as their perspective and life experience changes. That doesn't mean underplaying the dark side, it just means not Disneyfying it too much. The "stick together" just before everyone totally predictably splits up type of thing could be more subtle. Having said all that I'm always interested in anything Star Wars and I've seen nothing to curtail my interest in this show. The few bits that rankle don't spoil it. I look forward to seeing where this goes. I'm not one of those people who watch the first five seconds of the pilot episode and rubbish the whole series. I'll give it every chance to grow as these shows usually do. The Acolyte not so much. That fell short of it's potential while setting up ideas that I would love to see followed through. Disney just need to stick to the fairy tale structure without dumbing down for the sake of a broader appeal. At the end of the day I sat through Skeleton Crew very comfortably and I'm looking forward to more of it.

I hope this pulls in the next generation of Star Wars fans. I was seven in ‘77. I couldn’t be more hooked but a lot has passed over my children over the many years due to the lack of a fresh story made for a younger generation that isn’t animated. The child actors are young enough to relate with their generation of Star Wars fans and remain the faces for future content. Just don’t burn them out by over working them.

I remember reading that they had to actually recreate the holiday special performance because the source material didn't exist anymore. They said it was a lot of work but worth it

I love all the references to all the 80's cult classics like The Goonies, Flight of the Navigator and Explorers. There is also a very big parallel between Wim and his father to Bastian Bux and his Dad from Neverending Story (1979). Bastians' father was a widowed workaholic and wanted Bastian to pull his head out of his fantasies and face reality, just like Wim.

Very fun vibe! Extremely obvious twist though that Jude Law will be that Captain from the beginning and so I hope they don't treat the audience like they're stupid and try to make a big reveal of it later. Didn't quite work out for the Acolyte. I'm excited to see where this goes though, and maybe if it's set before Book of Boba Fett, they can have a run in with Cad Bane before the end of it.

Episode one of Skeleton Crew, brought me back to my childhood in the 70s. What the two boys do when they meet each other on the streets and talk like Jedi and Sith plus the way they play with their action figures is exactly how I acted in the late 70s early 80s growing up after watching Star Wars. We actually used broom handles for our lightsabers. I am really enjoying the show. I’m trying to figure out if their planet is in the unknown regions or in wild space according to the galactic charts of Star Wars. With presumably the kids ages they would’ve been born around 1 BBY. In the empire, it was forbidden to teach about the Jedi and most of the public didn’t like the Jedi. They also use old republic credits not new Republic, credits or Republic credits. This tells me that this planet has been cut off from Republic society for thousands of years. But I’m getting a vibe from the planet they’re on is the beginning of the First Order. The First Order used kids taken from their families as storm troopers. The dates of this film is 11 ABY and that would almost match up to when they became adults in their mid 20s early 30s at the beginning of TFA. When the two kids were sitting in detention hall, and the girl tells the other kid about the kids that don’t pass their test get sent to the mine’s, could be true, and they were trained to be storm troopers because the lack of intellectual skill, and the first order thought they would be great candidates to brainwash to become storm troopers. Also, their society seems a little bit borderline communism. When the kids have to take test on where they would fit in on the “great work“ tells me there’s something just not right about this perfect society. What’s going on below the surface of this planet. I’m sure we’ll find out. But that’s just an early theory of mine. In the previews we’ve seen we’ve seen Sith writing on walls. I believe that that is the planet where the kids are from. That’s the hidden treasure that Jude Laws character is looking for and the other pirates wants all the old artifacts from the old republic.

When they are showing Wim in his bedroom, look on his bed in the bottom right corner of the screen. It looks like an old toy from the 80s called 2XL. Not SW related, but cool 80s reference

Incredible break down, especially capturing the hologram throwback to the Holiday Special. You missed the sound of the locking mechanism as the pirate ship latches on to their prey at the start - the same sound we hear just before the stormtroopers board Tantive IV.

1) Jude Law’s character was obviously the pirate captain from the first scene, right? 2) Mel’s was the restaurant in the film American Graffiti, directed by George Lucas

One cool detail I noticed was the Captain's helmet. Much like Darth Vader's helmet was made to be evocative of old samurai helmets, the Pirate captain's helmet is very visually evocative of a tri-pointed pirate hat.

Love the show so far, and I'm ganna call it now, I bet their planet has been hidden from the galaxy since long before the empire, and potentially it is part of a grand experiment.

9:25 Great to hear EPCOT mentioned! It’s such an incredible thing that I feel like doesn’t get enough attention from mainstream pop culture. As soon as I saw the planet in the first episode I thought of Tomorrowland and EPCOT.

The music when Fern and KB are riding the bike through traffic is totally lifted from The Simpsons - right down to the car horn towards the end.

The pet being walked is a frog-dog, not a Loth cat. It’s in the subtitles as well. Looks similar to the creature from the scene outside Jabba’s palace.

The way the school was going to assign the kids a job and a future at those ages made me wonder how much of the Empire was really wiped away, just like the Ahsoka shipyard bit.

A few corrections: -The creators of the show have stated multiple times that Skelton Crew is aimed at adults even though it happens to feature kids, but that it's okay for kids to watch it too. -Neel is a different kind of elephant-like alien species than Max Rebo. -The circus footage wasn't pulled directly from the Star Wars Holiday Special as the creators stated that the footage was too low quality and at the wrong angle. They therefore had to recreate it from scratch.
