I found it interesting how Jod talked about the captain of the Cinder. Like a kid talking about a hero. Jod told Wim to follow his passions when they got a chance to talk. I think he is definitely selfish but not evil. He sees common ground with Wim. He definitely will get a redemption arc. His pirate challenge was probably just an adult taking control of the situation - to control SM 33. Next he’ll probably save the kids from the pirates.

That's what I think. Remember how Djinn couldn't just hand the Black Saber to Bo-Katan? It had to be taken in combat. SM-33 would work the same way...he'd only accept a new captain after a convincing trial by combat. Plus, Fern would never have agreed merely to give Jod control of SM-33 anyway. And, yes, Jod is going to need direct control of SM-33 to get them all to safety...he can't spend time arguing with Fern about every decision.

@@Neskaausart Pirates were to Jod as Jedi are to Wim. A call to adventure and escape from an oppressive system that sort to determine his future at a young age. Jod’s possibly a former youngling or Padawan who left by choice. Deep down he might regret that decision.

@@joechip1971​​⁠I think part of him does regret decisions he was possibly forced to make to survive in a chaotic post clone wars universe. Part of him is the persona he developed to cope with the needs to adapt which contradict something he lost. He is at times living a childhood he never fully lived by associating with the kids but he’s also resisting the vulnerability of being a kid. Selfishness and noble intent compete in his actions. Many characters in Star Wars have this inner conflict, like Ventress. He waited and the Force delivered the children who will be key to his redemption. He probably had given up in the cell but aside from the ship the kids had, the kids themselves gave him renewed hope.

The funny thing is this series has had a constant narrative thread around the concept of beings in the Star Wars universe not necessarily being aligned with expectations. At the pirate stronghold the hooker asks the kids, "Are you children?" thereby establishing that just because someone looks like a youngling does not mean that adults of a species look like adults. We see this used again at the spa where only the behaviour of the kids, not their appearances, made the staff realise these are youngling. We also have the "owl" astrologer and a huge "monster" who was actually friendly. We're very familiar with tiny races like the Droidsmith called Babu Frik so there is a very firm possibility that this "rat" is actually the legendary pirate who pilots SM33 from within and has been playing a cunning game all along. Either that or the writers are being boring and The Supervisor is the pirate who decided to retire to a luxurious life on Atatin following the crash. But that would mean their race can live for thousands of years as the spa was said to be built over an "ancient" pirate lair.

I agree with many saying Joe's not a bad guy. At the end of the episode he's clearly frustrated with the kids messing around constantly having to remind them that they're in danger and need to act fast. The music may fool you into thinking he's gone bad but his actions speak louder as he forces the girl to yield rather than just kill her to become captain, he warns Wim not to use the lightsaber as I'm sure he saw it was upsidown and he simply wanted to be in charge as the kids kept messing around.

Go watch Treasure Planet again-@JustStarWars. Ever since the first episode, Skeleton Crew is literally Star Wars’ take on Treasure Island-more specifically, the Treasure Planet adaptation. Character Parallels: •John Silver = “Jod Na” Nawood/Captain Silvo (Silvo in Latin means wood). Both are cooks of sorts-Silver claims to be famous for his soup and is hired as the cook aboard the Legacy, while Jod Na seems to whip up soup for the kids after escaping Port Borgo. Both act humble but are secretly devious pirates seeking riches and fame. •Jim Hawkins = Wim, though Fern also shares Jim’s attitude problem and reckless racing characteristics. Both Wim and Jim are fascinated by legends and adventure, each having their holographic storybooks. Both are charmed by Jod Na/Silver, who gives them encouragement to step up (e.g., flying/turret operation) with “find the greatness inside” speeches. Fern like Jim has a single mother-Wim has a single parent as well but seems to focused more on the one that’s been gone for longer. •Captain Amelia = Fern. Both are impulsive and in charge, also insult people to their faces and serve as captains and moral authorities. Each is later challenged by Jod Na/Silver for leadership. •John Silver (cyborg aspects)= KB and SM-33. Silver’s cyborg design-like the glowing right eye, Morph, and peg leg-are more elements of SM-33. Morph is comparable to the rat companion. While KB of course has cybernetics. •Mr. Arrow = KB. Both serve as the captain’s right-hand figure, remain suspicious of the crew (pirates/Jod), and take charge of setting their ships for sailing/hyperspace-and potentially both are sacrificed-possibly through their lifeline/life monitor being severed??? •Delbert = Neel. Both are nerdy, constantly worried sidekicks. They are the only ones to “get the girl” (sort of so far). Both warn Wim/Jim about dangers, are entrusted with piloting the ship during escapes. Delbert also shares some elements with Kim as well for their astrological knowledge and observatory homes. •SM-33 = B.E.N. Both are droid companions to infamous pirate captains, with their memories restricted to conceal treasure locations. Both were intended as comic relief, aid the kids and Jim, though due to the faults in their programming they aid in causing problems for the kids and have default pirate loyalties. Story Beats: •Both start with a Pirate Ship looting a cargo ship for treasure. Treasure Planet and Skeleton Crew open with the protagonists (Jim/Wim) getting in trouble with the authorities-police robots apprehend Jim/Wim for driving into restricted areas, and Fern’s reckless racing mirrors this as well. •Both feature protagonists obsessed with legends and adventure, doubted by family and friends who think they’ll fail, mostly Jim and Wim. •Both Jim and Wim discover crashed ships and injured/malfunctioning first mates (Billy Bones/SM-33). •Both recruit Silver/Jod at a spaceport (Montressor & Port Borgo-Borg-o; “beware of the cyborg”). •Both feature escapes from dire perils-Jim and crew escape a supernova/black hole, while the Skeleton Crew kids flee pirates and X-wings. •Both stories involve discovering the treasure’s exact location at a pirate lair (Flint/Rennod). The lairs are booby-trapped, and both Jod Na and Silver lead a mutiny once they’ve realized the treasure is in their grasp. Treasure Planet is rigged to self-destruct, just like the Onyx Cinder. •Jim, Delbert, and Amelia escape through a hatch during the mutiny, just like the kids in Skeleton Crew. Jim and Wim both fumble saving their friends. Additional Connections: •Both Jim and Wim have single parents, with one missing (dead or absent). •Morph, though more akin to the rat, serves as Jim’s adorable sidekick, similar to Neel. The similarities are obvious but rearranged to avoid direct plagiarism. Even the title hints at this: in Treasure Island, the treasure is on “Skeleton Island,” and both infamous captains’ lairs are skull mountains and the secrets to the treasures’ locations are buried deep inside and booby trapped. Rewatching Treasure Planet is DEFINITELY essential to catching all the parallels-it’s not enough to just recall seeing it before; I had to rewatch it after episode 4-once you start, the correlations become SUPER obvious. I was initially skeptical about Skeleton Crew, but I’m loving it so far-it’s funny how they’re seemingly redeeming a 2002 Disney “flop” as a Star Wars series. I wonder if the ending will mirror Treasure Planet: both Jod and Silver, despite their flaws, have soft spots for the kids, which may lead to Jod redeeming himself in the same manner Silver does to save Jim, So, go rewatch Treasure Planet! It’s worth it. Goonies was basically a loose adaptation of Treasure Island, so having the band of kids is in this, with the surface level Stranger Things vibes and force powers. But it has mostly derived its story and character plots from Treasure Planet.

My theory is that the pirate captain or one of his descendants is the Administrator on At-Attin, and this will be revealed by his voice. That's why no one on At-Attin knows about the war or the fall of the Old Republic. Because it would disturb the flow of credits to the Administrator.

There is an old archived official Start Wars in-universe article posted on the HoloNet News website that was all about the Banking Clan streamlining currency conversions. Do an internet archive search for "Currency Upheavals Deliver Profits to IBC" to find it. Considering the Sith had already infiltrated and corrupted the leadership of the Banking Clan before Plagueis, I've speculated that At Attin was established by the Banking Clan long ago under the guise of supporting the Republic but were secretly funding the Sith. That we saw both the Banking Clan AND the Sith Old Tongue in episode 5 has strengthened my speculation.
