A render engine is what makes stuff appear on the screen. Usually using ray-casting (like ray tracing but without the bouncing off of objects), it detects what it hits, and then displays that to the screen (this is probably one of the most common ways of doing this but their might be otherways, correct me if im wrong. ty) The only thing I've seen with render engines is with Blender and it's Eevee, Cycles, and Workbench render engines.
