Regarding artblock: I think it comes down to knowing yourself and your limits. Some people can happily draw cubes all day every day for weeks to practice perspective and that’s great, but others need the satisfaction of a finished piece every now and then. I try to find the balance between study and play that works for me, in order to avoid artblock.

I would like to add to the response of the last question. When talking about any career choice, you have to evaluate the extent of your passion vs real opportunities, as well as potential opportunities and your ability to materialise them. If you live in a society where there are not many career options for art, but you decide you have enough passion for it, maybe you have to work hard and get a double degree to have a day job while you pursue your art. Stuff like that. Passion has to always be balanced with practicality in certain societies especially if you come from restricted means and cannot rely on your parents' money for support when you need to.

I wouldn't say that art block isn't a real thing because sometimes you are really stressed overall in your life and you feel overwhelmed to the point not even art helps you cope with it (or at least it affects me that way) or idk other reasons but i love to see your positive view on it I guess sometimes we really just got to kick ourselves in the butt to work on it and your take on it sounds really inspiring!

Jess, thanks for sharing this. Loved seeing the kingfisher painting emerge. The way the monochrome jacket morphs into bird perches is fab and the pop of colour from the kingfishers is stunning. I also loved your octopus video...this one flipped vertically would make a fantastic book cover too 😁

Sometimes when I draw, I tend to lose my focus and i take breaks, and when I do, I leave my painting undone and lack the interest in finishing it...... I do have the determination to complete but I don't know what's stopping me from completing that! Maybe I fear that I would mess it up? Help me!!

Set a goal to complete it no matter what! And pick a topic that you love so that next time you will be itching to finish! :) maybe experiment with a different medium that will get you excited to keep going

Idk if you’ve done it already but I’d love to see a review on your opinion of each color pencil brands. I’ll definitely be trying fabercastell this year but I’ve been on to prismacolor for a good minute now & grew up using a lot Crayola just in general.

Thanks! I’ll have to do it. I’m gathering the information for that video. I used prismacolors for about 12 years and I just got the Fabre Castell to try. They are definitely very different and I was nervous to try different ones but I love them. I’ll do a video like that soon. Thanks for the comment :)

If you look at many of the artists who make videos or have developed their professional style, comparison feels too easy. Progress may not look exactly alike between people or even from one moment to the next. A thing I like to do is keep alot of different drawings and start as many as I want and work with what feels right and come back to things slowly weaving a tapestry rather than getting a full piece down in one go. Methods, process and efficiency may be important in some contexts, but that may not be part of the process that might work for a situation. People have different forms and different ways to make progress. I think it’s important to just keep trying to bring it together no matter how you work or what you’re working on. There really is no right way.

I just found you.... and I am completely overtaken by your channel. It really speaks to me. I am a former Music and Arter myself, NYC, but a music major. I am an old lady now... an RN for mental health facility. I have just begun to fulfill a promise to myself of drawing everyday, I started back in December of 2018. I see the vast improvements over these years. I am completely unschooled but hope to take lessons when I retire someday. I work in mixed medias with everything except for oils, I hope to learn to use those also when I retire. I moved from Windsor Terrace (Park Slope) to Florida in 2006. No culture to found here, that is for sure. I thought you might like to know who your viewers are, IN any case, I have a thousand questions for your next Q and A.... so I would like to post them here. I would like to know how often you clean out your studio and how often you clean up your studio? Are you neat? Sloppy? How often do you go through your supplies and how often do you hone them? Are you in a relationship and if so, how do you balance your work life, art life and home life ? I hope you will either answer here or do another Q and A and include these questions. I am a new very inspired fan xoxoxox P.S. I suck at Instagram. I can't figure out how to use it. Like I said : I am old.
