Steven your videos saved me at the end of last year. I think I found one around the beginning of december or so and I may have watched/listened to a dozen around now, and youre saying all the things I needed to hear, some again, some for the first time. i'm already working in the gaming industry, but I was /am going through some serious burnout .. and you reminded me how to doodle and sketch for fun and for myself again. thanks man.

Bringing that element of surprise into every imagination drawing is such an eye-opening sentence. Almost immediately understood where I’d been going wrong when it came to drawing without reference. Excellent video!

I've been following some advices you gave about drawing from imagination for a couple years now and It worked out for me, I am better than ever, so I realy doubt there would be an actual intrinsic disadvantage to not introducing references into the drawings as long as you practice with reference the way you draw from your imagination, specially if the goal is for example designing and exploring new form configurations or something that isn't trying to resemble a specific subject. Also, thanks for those advices, was a game changer

What a coincidence. I was lately in the mood to draw just pages of random heads... and yeah. I often try to not repeat myself. I also try to include at least one or two more extreme face expressions.

woah this is an awesome sketchbook page! What a way to practice! Is Steven using reference for these or just practicing from imagination? sorry if he mentioned it and i missed it. Keep up the good work

Just realised he says at the very beginning 'from imagination' XD

first two were from reference. but dont feel afraid to look at a reference once in a while to get a shape or idea in your head. happy drawing!

I want to draw with a fountain pen, but haven't figured out how to keep it from drying up between sessions. How do you do it?
@StevenZapataArt11 ай бұрын
I find different inks are more prone to drying. I find non waterproof inks take longer to dryout, that's what's in this one, so if I just put the cap back on it has no problems even with weeks between sessions.
