I should really level up my sketching game but alas, life often keeps me busy. Such wonderful sketches, I feel honored to see you share it❤

Between sketchbooks and loose papers I have learned that sketchbooks can be versatile in using them. Sometimes for drafts or for final works. Your tour gave me the proof that I can tackle my sketchbook this way.

Thank you very much, Katie. Always fascinating to see a working sketchbook, and when there are contributions from children that's a sure sign of cool parenting.

I love seeing your sketches, your Sargent studies in particular are spectacular. It is such an incredible feat because his paint strokes tell so much with so little, I'm amazed you can capture that essence with a pencil! Have they changed the Moleskine sketch paper? The last one I used was over a decade ago and it was this very slick yellowish card stock and the yellow would erase off to white with all but the lightest erasing. I really hated the thing. 😅 But I see so many artist's I respect (including you) using them again. Have they gotten better? Any tooth to the paper, can they handle erasing?

thankyou! yes nothing like the way you describe. rather smooth and creamy, but the cream doesn’t seem to erase off. my last moleskine notebook had the very slightest tooth, but this one was incredibly smoot - so that was a bit of a disappointment - but still good!

Very nice. I enjoy watching people flip through their sketchbooks (As a side note: I don't understand why so many artists on KZbin are so negative about AI).

Thankyou! On the AI (and leaving aside ethical issues) - they make terrible references. The lighting is usually weird and inconsistent - there's often major errors in the underlying structure of bones/muscles. People also get averaged out to blandness a lot. What I look for is peoples emotion, and the things that make their faces unique. I just find that missing from generated images.

AI is trained on artworks made by artists who are not compensated for it, and often don’t even know their work has been used to such an end; in other words, AI steals from artists to be trained on their backs. Since this is, at the very least, immoral, you can easily imagine why artists mostly oppose AI and its uses.

@Fethennour I hear that. But you'd then have to convince me artists haven't been stealing other art ideas since since the beginning of time. This is nothing new.

@ Inspiration and theft are two very different things. I never heard of an artist who plagiarized from another and bragged about it, or an artist who’s well known for their plagiarism be recognized and celebrated by their peers. If you cannot understand that, there is nothing I can say more, I’m afraid.
