I agree we get too much charcoal and graphite. Time to switch it up. I’ve been getting SketchBox for three years and would like paints and gouache.

Sketchbox = sketching materials to make sketches with which from what I understand is pencil, charcoal, or ink pens. Normally people who are sketching don’t do it with watercolor paint, gouache or other colorful materials therefore those materials are normally reserved for finished pictures that are created from the sketches that were created before hand. I’m sure there are other art subscription boxes out there that include more colorful materials that would be more suited to people that prefer that sort of art supply.

yikes, this critique hit us hard in the feels. We had a great response to our January box that also had charcoal and pastels, which lead us to sourcing the items for this box. We'd really recommend checking out our school videos here on youtube to make sense of things we include in our boxes. While testing this box we noticed that you have to shave quite a bit off the Nitram sticks, which is why we included the hero arts brush to dip into that shaved powder and apply it with a softer touch (similar to using your finger but without the skin oil you had mentioned). We're doing our best to tap into what mediums result in incredible art from our audience, but sometimes we miss the mark. This is great feedback and it will help us curate better boxes in the future. Speaking of the future, next month is an explosion of color... so please don't give up on us yet. Next month might be the most value, color variety, and unique tools we've ever shipped.

Thanks 😊 for the interest and response! I look forward to seeing that color explosion next month! I always give my honest opinion and know that everyone’s art experience is unique, but my goal is to help those whose leanings are similar to my own and to offer my perspective. Due to sensory sensitivity I’ll probably never be a super fan of some charcoals/pastels, but I will always appreciate the challenge and practice that going out of my comfort zone provides. 😃

I'm going to look up some charcoal drawing tutorials and see what happens. I probably wouldn't have bought these materials in the store. I'm trying to have some fun and chill out:)

Oh no! 😱 More messy supplies. Nice unboxing though. I think it sounds like I have the same tactile issues that you have. Although during my 100-day project on Instagram, I revisited some previously messy SketchBoxes - oil pastels, chalk pastels, pan pastels, … And I actually surprised myself. I will try (insert long-suffering sigh here). 😞

Thank you 😊! Good for you! 🙌 That’s a great reminder, sometimes I have to invent challenges that involve those “difficult” supplies and then I “have to” use them. 😉. I might have to come up with some large scale charcoal challenge…if only I had a giant canvas. 😆

I definitely wasn't thrilled with this box...I expected more of a summer color themed box....

I'll be honest i'm kinda done with charcoal. I also don't understand getting the two types, they basically work the same? Just one set has the standard wood barrel. China markers, blending brush and sanding board are cool though, all three new to me.
@ButterflyBlessingsStudio5 ай бұрын
Yep, I do prefer the wood barrel ones though, but especially after getting willow charcoal in January…it’s too much of the same. Thank you 😊 for sharing your thoughts!

Charcoal, not my fave. Interestingly I love drawing with grease pencils. I believe they’re wax based, very soft wax. They layer beautifully and they keep your compositions uncomplicated. Some times we artists get too fussy and focused on detail… Regarding the blending brush; I am a fine artist by profession and a hobby crafter, ANY tool you use to create fine art is a fine art tool!!! I sometimes use kitchen tools to move paint…so…😊
@ButterflyBlessingsStudio5 ай бұрын
Good point on the brush, 🤣 I’ve often used stuff out of the trash or recycle bin to create with. 😃 I definitely tend to get lost in the details, it’s a strength and a weakness (certainly the “lost” part). I’ll have to try and see if the China markers help me loosen up on the details. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts! 😊

Your little black storm cloud made me laugh. This is a horrible box. The worst since the liquid graphite. Ugh. I would prefer gouache. I might have to cancel my subscription if they send out any more charcoal sticks. How much charcoal do we need. It lasts forever because I don’t use it. 😂
@ButterflyBlessingsStudio5 ай бұрын
Thank you 😊!! Haha 🤣 it does last forever (because I don’t use it either. ) I already gave away a previous sketching set to a new artist because it had charcoal. I guess I’m going have to find some more new artists to share with.
