Hello ... very beautiful lunar drawing on black paper ... well done. For some very dark shadows around the edges of the craters and towards the inside of the terminator, I also use one or two black fine-tipped markers. see you soon and a little caress for the doggie ...

Thank you very much. I was thinking about incorporating black markers, and maybe a white gel pen for bright highlights along crater walls or central peaks. Can't wait to get out for some lunar sketching at the eyepiece with the dog. She really is great company out there.

Good job there. I enjoy your sketch videos. I also just started sketching moon on black paper and IMO pastels and charcoals on black is easier to tone and look more realistic. Carry on.

Thank you very much. Definitely liking the white on black, just hard to get used to drawing/sketching that way. I think this test helped me work out some things I was sure about.

Thank you very much. I had other parts in the video that I had to cut out (mistakes while talking) that had her standing behind me looking at the camera.

That group of craters is knows as the 'Ptolemaeus Crater Chain' isn't it? Enjoyed watching that, thank you Michael. You're an artist BTW, it's not up for debate!!

I know so little about the moon I wouldn't know if that is the name of the crater group, but I also wouldn't doubt it. I used to draw a lot as a kid, but this crater chain might be the most detailed thing I've drawn in 20 years. Not knowing how to do this going into it I didn't feel like much of an artist 😆

@@AdirondackAstronomy feeling like an artist is a different question 😂! Art can be very much about inquisitiveness, experimentation and taking risks. I don't know much about the moon at all, but I had heard this group being called that. Can't seem to find much online. Feels like it's secret knowledge almost britastro.org/node/22902

I have definitely referenced that site a few times in the past because they have some tips on sketching. Really a lot of what I did was just guess work and hoping it turns out OK. I'm just happy I was able to pull it off. I am looking forward to doing more moon sketches now that I've done this practice run.

Hi Michael, it seems like I've missed a few of your recent videos as I was logged in to YT under a different account... So, I've some catching-up to do. As for this sketch: it is an amazing job, first or fiftieth! Very nice indeed!

I still find lunar sketching incredibly intimidating.
@AdirondackAstronomy Жыл бұрын
Lunar sketching is extremely intimidating. I suggest just finding one crater to focus on and do what you can. I wouldn't recommend trying to do an entire field of view of the southern region filled with craters as a first sketch.

Fantastic! So will that be easier in the dark with the black paper? Seems like for a lot objects it would be less work maybe?
@AdirondackAstronomy3 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily easier with black paper, but I personally find it easier to draw faint DSO properly on black paper. It is a bit of a chore getting used to drawing the bright portions of the moon rather than the dark portions that you would do on white paper. Overall though I'm really enjoying doing artwork on black paper.

Thank you. Doing this practice got me excited to get out at the eyepiece and try it out. I was afraid of how difficult this would be.
