Lol! I love when you say "if you're happy with it, you can completely ignore my advice" I'm literally rolling on the floor XD

The style on the left isn't realistic, but it does use a lot of the simplifications that cartoon/illustrative styles use. Although it is a little tongue-in-cheek, I do still mean it ;) I don't want to offend anybody :P

The one on the left looks more like a cougar compared to the house cat on the right. Great critique 😊

Haha, never mind those who think the left drawing looks more realistic. Let's be honest, we all are here because we drew our pets in accordance with what our left brain said when we really just should have let our right brain hemisphere do the job. Someone once told me that learning to draw is mostly about learning to SEE without INTERPRETING. When we are kids, we learn how to draw simplyfied prototypes of things, but that's like singing the main theme of a symphony: It won't ever sound like what you hear when the orchestra plays. I subscribed to you channel because I think you are doing a great job pointing out what are the most common mistakes. I didn't do most of them in my own attempt today, but I'll still use a lot of your advice to improve my own drawing, especially regarding the distance between the eyes, size of the ears etc. The difficulty for me is to create different hues and shades with my pencils, but I guess I'll just have to practise more. What I love about this video is that you don't go in with like 200 different tools (even though I bet you could have). I do have a couple of different pencils and a kneading eraser, but in other videos they use tools I never even heard the name of 😆.

This is a great tutorial! I really like the comparison between the 2 styles and how you simplify not just how you do something but why. Thank you!

Oh. My. God. This might be the best tutorial I’ve come across. Even if this was made a long time ago, I will never forget this!!!

Very impressive as a tutorial. The differences are clear between the two likenesses, but also somewhat subtle and hard to see for someone who is still going on the usual way human cognition operates: generalizations good enough to function, but not so invested in detail as to cost extra time or effort. You do a great job of identifying just what needs to be slowed down and seen again for accuracy over perceptive "efficiency." Sure goes some distance toward a genuine portrait likeness of someone's individual cat, too!

This was very helpful ive been really struggling with the proportions of the eyes and muzzle. I already have a good understanding of values and the way light hits fur and gives it its shadows and highlights but for whatever reason proportions are the biggest issue for me as an artist and it always has been since i first started making art as a kid. Im going to try to think more critically about spacing now. Great video!

Anson He Thanks! Glad you like the video! Yes, I can add it to the list! Colouring is a huge topic on its own though so it may be broken down into more manageable topics and projects :)

That's really very sweet of you! I have a Redbubble page where I sell things with my work printed on it, and I also sell commissions and originals of course. I also have a Patreon in the works but I'm still preparing rewards and things. You certainly don't have to support me directly financially though to be a brilliant help- just watching my videos, sharing them and following me on my social media would be awesome! :D

@ClaudiaSketches2 ай бұрын
I used a prismacolor colerase. For coloured pencil pieces I tend to avoid sketching in graphite as it muddies any coloured pencil layered on top.

Great video! So much difference! Thats why its important to use reference if needed. Would you be interested in doing a Colab??
@ClaudiaSketches7 жыл бұрын
I used the same reference for both drawings, but there was certainly a difference in how much I was studying the reference for each side! Right now Ive got videos recorded and planned for a while and have a collab in the works with a good friend of mine. It would also be nice to chat and get to know you a bit better before working together if that's ok? :)
