Don't know if this helps but I've discovered in messing around with sketchup that if you use your tape measure to lay out guidelines first, you can then measure between those guidelines with the dimensions tool. And then of course, you can remove the guidelines. The pencil or rectangle feature works in a similar manner. Once you layout your lines with the pencil and get your dimensions, you can erase the pencils line leaving only the small dimension lines behind. Same with the rectangle. Just delete the shape and your left with small dimensions lines. And the pencil and rectangle you can start and stop wherever you want. They also leave a nifty line for the dimensions tool to use once they're deleted!

Excellent series. Eventhough its a bit old, it really helped me getting to grips with it. Download the old sketchup 8 and forget about the new web based one, It can do less then the old version 8.

I've thought about it, using the web version instead, since that seems to be the default now! I still fire up my copy of Sketchup 2017 on my Mac when I need to build something...maybe this is the year!

Also, you could place elements on different layers and then you can show/hide them. From AutoCad practice, I put the dimensions on their own layer as well.

For those of use that actually want to follow along in our own version of Sketchup, it would be nice if provided a link to download the entire model of the cupboard so we can try the various dimensioning and scene tools ourselves. Would this be possible?

Hi Rob, How can I print a single object (group) in Sketchup? I have drawn a coffee table that has different parts (each on is now a group), now I want to print each object to get then cut.
@mageKnightz7 жыл бұрын
Loving these videos! I'm learning a lot. Is there a way to determine the distances from one object / edge / face to another - like Fusion 360 does? Not just measuring, but setting their distance from each other (making the objects move accordingly).

Is this a Mcintosh treat? Me, on Windows, beside zooming in the work in the view area that I want to print, only click on "fit to screen", and all is perfect!

Printing from Sketchup is a challenge. I found it easier to cut & paste the drawing into an MS Word template which has my personalized title block. You can easily resize the image in Word, then print in high quality. To save ink, while in Sketchup, I change the background to white.

Is there a way to do a cut list in sketch up to work out how many 8x4 sheets you need?
@cannikinn7 жыл бұрын
It's been a while since I used it, but the CutList plugin used to do this beautifully: extensions.sketchup.com/en/content/cutlist However I don't know if you can use extensions like this with the new in-browser version of Sketchup, they may only work in the download versions.

How do you render the scene with dimensions? Every time I try to render my object with dimensions it will only render the object. :-(
@cannikinn5 жыл бұрын
Hmm, what do you mean by "render?" Are you talking about the plugins that let you do like ray-traced rendering where you get a super high quality final image? I wouldn't think that dimensions would show in a view like that. I always just add dimensions and then screenshot or print right from Sketchup.

Im sure by now you have found an easier way to print whats on the screen in sketchup. Rather than all of that guess work just export a 2D model to your desktop and print that

”Bαzοmο Tdy Plαn” (Google it) is an incredible book about woodworking. I`m a graduate of a one-year carpentry course from a local tech college. Of all books I`ve read during my study about carpentry, I do think this is the ideal book I`ve read so far. It describes everything concerning wood working as well as complements it with useful pictures. .
