Great video, thank you. It is amazing all the basic features one ignores on getting started and then is great to revisit later.

Thanks for sharing. I use those shortcuts constantly, thanks.SketchUp is constantly improving and becoming robust except for components that glue to surfaces and cut holes. These are very useful for doors and windows but can very easily crash SketchUp 2018. Furthermore, holes can only be cut as single simple shapes with no inclusions or gaps. For example when decorating a host surface with a floral component shape, any holes in the component show as white rather than the native texture of the host.

So handy is this particular function I mapped it to my Logitech mouse's thumb buttons: 1 hides the model, the other similar components so that I can toggle views instantly and not occupy my left hand with key board shortcuts. It's a tremendous time saver for pros. Another super time save is flip faces function is mapped to my wheel's tilt function one direction and the other direction tilt activates the move tool, to functions literally encountered 100's of times a day when drafting. Menu flipping faces can cost you 15min a day, x a week .... you're losing days a year. Map it, flip it, and keep on trucking.

The question I'm working on in my head is what tool allows you to deliberately choose 1 or 2 components to intersect geometry with. If I could do that, I'd have a lot less loose geometry to clean up after I intersect with selection.

Excellent one. Before I knew this command I was really suffering from model's other parts that come on the way when editing.

You are not alone! We've all been there... I guess that's why I made the video... Kind of like therapy. I'm doing my part to help end the suffering.

Great videos - thank you. I am a newbie at this and I just watched "Hide Rest of Model" and have 2 questions: 1. If I only want to edit 1 object of I component, can I hide selected objects or do I have to make it unique first? 2. Why are there times when the "Hide Rest of Model" does not work?

I've always found the term "similar" odd. Aren't these copies of the SAME component?
@aarondietzen29956 жыл бұрын
The most proper term would probably be "instance". Sometimes words just fall out of my mouth... And they are not always the perfect words. Occasionally I nail it, though!
@walkern.picker38936 жыл бұрын
It's not a problem at all with what you said - that term is in the software.

I could have used a more in depth explanation. Groups and maybe layers seem to be key to using this tool. But you glossed over that. Pls try to take just a moment to help us understand the relationships between tools when you do these mini workshops.

This Skill Builder was specific to the Hide Rest of Model command. You can find more info on groups and Layers in the Skill Builder Playlist. Groups and components specifically in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZSag4OFf8yKp9U
