Would you like to add a little magic to your SketchUp project? Ok... it’s not quite magic, but it could take your presentations up a notch. You can hide and reveal parts of your 3D model (with an animation effect) by using Scene transitions in conjunction with Section Planes. Rad!
Note: this is a more advanced technique, so don't get frustrated if it takes you a few tries to get things right!
Cheers,
Josh

Actually you don't need two section planes for every group. File size will be bigger. You only need one at the end to hide Geometry inside that gtoup. Then we create scenes as follows : Scene 1, empty space: activate all section planes inside group to hide all Geometry. Scene 2 : deactivate section planes in group 1 to reveal Geometry group 1 Scene 3 : deactivate section planes in group 2 to revewl geometry group 2. Continue until all geometry revealed. With this way, you don't need to do anything with layers.

Good point, RLP. I've had better experience teaching the method I show in the video (two sections planes vs one per Group). It can be a complicated technique, so I like demonstrating it with two sections per Group and digging into how Layers & Scenes can be tied into the whole process. The one-section method is certainly faster, but I recommend students learn the two-section method first and then advance to using one-section after they get the feel of it.

ah. experience might be slightly different. Most of my student become confused to deal with so many section planes while keeping back and forth between activate/deactivate layers and activate/deactivate section planes. So I decide to instantly teach them with one section method by explain them the relation between scene and section only. Because while I teaching about section, I discussed about relation between scene and each property first, then I finish by combine with several properties. Thank you for sharing Josh.

Thank you, extremely useful and well described!! Is there a way to have objects move into the space? eg, perhaps have the nails come in and enter the plywood and joists?

MnMykl you can do this with dynamic components but I’m not sure if you can activate the movement within an animation

A little confusing. You mention a modifier key to copy and move the section plains, is that the move tool?

A great thing, amazing. Like that. Have to do this with some bubbles. One tiny remark from a civil engineer: It makes less sense to have the reinforcement in the middle of the concrete, it is the neutral area, no forces there to take over by the steel:-), maybe a bit thermal extension....
