I recently dicovored your channel, after watching your video "10 extensions every architect should know" where I after having used Sketchup for like 8 years now, learned some new features. Now I've been watching most of your videos, even though i consider myself being on an advanced level. But as i'm self taught in the program, i thought maybe i could still learn a few things from watching how you use Sketchup. And i love these small "tips and tricks" you give in most video, some have really improved my workflow! So thanks! I'd love too see a future video, where you went over a bunch of "tips and tricks" that adavanced/self taught users might have missed, or bad drawing habits that could be done more efficiently. And perhaps also a video going over many of the "hidden" keyboard/mouse shortcuts, that really helps with using the program efficiently. An example being pressing "b" for bucket tool, and then holding "alt" to quickly access the color/texture picker. or shift to replace. these shortcuts have all been things i have first learned years inbetween and along the way. and would be great to see a video covering this. For instance, I just first learned today, that you can just double click after a push/pull movement. (Bonus tip 06:05) 😄I thought i was already being efficient with just clicking once on the next rectangle, and then just move the curser too the first door frame, and click again. But this is even faster! Thanks again for creating all this content, and making these fun, easy to follow videos. I will certainly keep watching! 👍

Hi Alex, I did learn a tip from you today! We deal with hand drawn schematic plans a lot and I did not know that you could scale the image by just typing in the dimension that it should be. I will be using that all the time now! I think it is wonderful what you are providing here, thank you!

Hello! Is there a way I can upload or use a real life item say from a furniture brand I like to place into my 3D model plan? Thanks for all the useful tips SketchUp School!
@SketchUpSchool11 күн бұрын
You can search the 3D Warehouse for the item and there's a decent chance someone will have created a model of it that you can use in your project.

Really good tutorial. Notice that BEFORE you cut the doors / windows, it is very important to establish the total HEIGHT of the house / floor. If you get that wrong, and try to scale / push/pull the walls, all the doors / windows will have a wrong size.

Thank you for the very informative video. Perhaps you could help me, lets say I have CAD drawings of 4 different house units for the estate I am planning. Can the steps be replicated on the subsequent unit types after I have done all the steps on the first model?

If I understand your question, yes - you can replicate the steps for subsequent unit types. Of course, if you run into any further questions, please send a message to team@sketchupschool.com and an instructor will be happy to help.

Need help from eperienced users please: I tried to import a png file and resize but it just simply doesn't work. What I am doing wrong? measure a known distance, Sketchup writes how long it is (according to Scketchup) but I can not overwrite the numbers for the correct measurement: can not click into the cell. Any idea?
@SketchUpSchool9 ай бұрын
Once you measure, there is no need to click in the Measurements box... just type the measurement on your keyboard and press Enter/Return. If you continue to have trouble, please send a message to team@sketchupschool.com and an instructor will help.

You can only import PDFs using SketchUp on a Mac. For PC users, take a screenshot of your PDF and then import that image file as a workaround.

Too bad nothing is easy in Sketchup. "Just import the pdf!" Because Sketchup doesn't support pdf. You have to install plugins first. Why on earth wouldn't it just work with pdf by default. Also, the advice to use a door opening in a potato resolution floorplan as a scale reference is absolute garbage. Go for the longest dimension in your floorplan to have some semblance of accuracy.
@SketchUpSchool10 ай бұрын
You can import PDFs on Mac, just not PC due to the different file architecture there). You can take a screenshot of the PDF on a PC though and import as an image. And for using the door opening, you can actually use any dimension you like. That's because you are still specifying accurate dimensions as you go... the underlying plan will always be a little bit off since it is a raster image - whether you use a long or short dimension. But it's just a reference, so it's OK that it's not perfect (which it won't be with your proposed method either).
