Nicely done and helpful, Aaron. Thank you! You're right, there's a ton of details you could go into, but providing the initial, basic steps of bringing a prepped SketchUp furniture design into LayOut and properly creating views will give many folks a leg up on getting started!

Definitely helps I’ve been making life harder on myself not knowing or using the tools sketchup has to offer!

Love your vids Aaron. But tbh its much more enjoyable to watch you when you don't follow a script :)

Actually, I would be interested in seeing some of the thought process behind title blocks in layout. The overall title blocks for multiple sheets, the sheet specific information blocks ... basically how to establish an efficient work flow.

Question... How do you print full size (1:1) when the actual size is larger than 8.5x11 letter size paper? This is especially needed when trying to make templates. Like your How To's!

When is a free/online version of Layout coming for those of us that are not using Sketchup Pro?

I love the whole series. I can't locate one that deals specifically with the method for exporting DWG and DXF files from either Sketchup or Layout. My project will be laser-cut basswood, and the other image exports simply don't translate into Corel or CAD. Extensions? I dunno...

with sketch up can the dimensions/ text notes be all set to one direction say horizontal to make it easier to ready so you are not changing the pages view in the shop sorry have just started playing with sketchup coming from Autocad

Brilliant video and I do this kind of work quite a lot. I don't do all of the prep in Sketchup, one good view of the leg, for example, is sufficient because in Layout, this view can be copied 3 times as you do here but use the standard views in layout to show front, back, left, right and top since behind the scenes, Layout has the 3D model.

I think i need to learn layout, sort of hoped i could just export all my scenes to it. I see its power and reason there isnt an easy button.
@bradmeacham69825 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure I see a need to add multiple scenes for a single part where each scene has a different orthogonal view of the same part. Rather, you could have a single scene for the part, with its own unique layer to which the part has been assigned and is then used to hide the part in other scenes (turn off visibility of the part layer when not needed). This single part scene can then be imported or copy/pasted into multiple related Layout viewports on a single page. You would then pick which standard orthogonal view -top, front, left, right, back, bottom, ISO- you want to display for the part in each viewport using Layout's "Standard View" menu for the scene. This methodology will minimize the number of SketchUp scenes used to display parts, which could quickly get out of hand for a woodworking (any) project with many parts.

Aaron, what book would you recommend to learn Layout? I am now using SU 2017 Make.

Instead of using different scenes from su use the same scene then select different views in lo. Is this likely to be a problem. Need to set up only one scene in su

The general idea of this video is just to link the model created in the previous video into a LayOut file. For more info on using LayOut, check out the LayOut Essentials course at learn.sketchup.com/

Made no sense to me at all. It's six years old, and really wasn't for beginners. I'm using ketchup 2024 and it doesn't even use layers. Went way to fast.
