In addition to construction lines you can put out guide points in space that begin at endpoints. You can use the arrow keys to lock it into a specific axis while drawing in open space. And resizing something small to much larger temporarily can allow you to edit or make small geometry that would be impossible otherwise. You get "Number of segments is too large for given angle and radius" or "Radius is too small" if you try to draw too small of a circle or arc.

Super cool tip to avoid the arc segment issues!

Somehow I overlooked or never heard of the "scaling" feature of the tape measure. This is the kind of thing that happens when you are self taught. Thanks for filling in that gap.

If two guides cross, if you hover over the intersection with, say, the line tool, a small red cross will appear to indicate that the two guides are really touching each other, If the red cross does not appear, then the guides are not co-planar.

After two decades Sketchup is still the same in terms of look and feel, and the way it works overall. And you have yet another logo, LOL! The house logo looked cute, and it was self explanatory, it showed the easiest usecase for the software.

You can also use the tape to lay out a series of equidistant parallel guidelines after you set the first distance. The following guides will snap into place. Useful for marking out a chess board 🤗

The hovering was new to me. How did I miss that? I think you forgot the guide points as opposed to guide lines.

I'm not sure when the hover functionality was implemented, but it's not present in SketchUp Make 2017. Additionally, hover functionality is supported with the web version.

The tape measure tool is great as a guideline/guidepoint, and the protractor is also a great angle guideline tool. BUT there is nothing for a radius guideline, and drawing circles leaves bits and pieces after erasure. How about a modifier key to make a radius guideline?? Or even to make any geometric entity a guideline only?

Looks like the hover-to-get-size feature was added in a recent version. Doesn't work in 2017 version.

How do you remove measurement lines? It's not an infinite line as it's shown in this video but a two-end-point one within an object. I needed for something and now I'd like to remove it but it's not allowing it to me.

where (besides the forum) can I go for additional (more detailed) help please? I can't seem to get my guide-line measurements to "take hold" when I have a guide line started....I click, release, pull and the guide line begins to move/form but as soon as I type in "MY" measurements.....it doesn't accept any. ,,,????

Longtime occasional user and have had a frustrating occasional problem when trying to resize a drawing using the tape measure, and the resize model selection window doesn't popup when expected. Think I just found the solution on my system, I use a Logitech M510 mouse and if I click to enter the new value, the resize works, if I click, no success. Never seen this documented? I'm sure others have experienced it.

How can you make a component with two or multiple different component or groups nested inside of it and I like to scale the main (mother) component but one or few nested component remains on its size and position, is it possible in Sketchup?
@AaronMakingStuff
@AaronMakingStuff 3 жыл бұрын
That can be done using Dynamic Components... but regular components will resize everything inside equally.

You don't need to use "eraser" to take all guide lines away. Use the "erase all guide lines" short cut.

I'm using Sketchup Make 2017 and it doesn't seem to have the hovering feature or scaling one dimension within a model. Is this correct or am I missing something? Other than that, a great set of videos and I'm learning a lot
@moshemaor1731

I also use Sketchup 2017. Hovering works fine. To perform the scaling process, you must be precise with the 2 clicks. The great problem is that it scales ALL geometries in the design, and not only the one we work on, although I converted it to a group, before scaling, as the lecturer asked. Thanks.
