The solid tool method is great when you have a lot of identical holes to do but also when your wall is not straight. Curved wall, various thickness, quite useful when working on existing walls ! :)

Thank Eric and Aaron. Great videos. I would like to see a video on when to use an Extension versus Native tools. What is your thought process?

I have a wall where the window inner opening width is larger than the outer with, house is over 100yrs old with 15" solid walls. So had to create centreline, draw Rectangle on the inner plane extend the centreline, then draw the smaller outer plane. Then connect the angled corners and group.

You lost me when you created the three windows. Why did you first have to explode the larger wall?

Do you have a time when he exploded the wall? I never saw it.

@@Woojo01 At approximately the 8:52 mark he says "everything I want to remove is raw geometry inside of a group" - I spent about 30 minutes trying to duplicate it but couldn't (very frustrating) I found another YT video from TheSketchUpEssentials titled "CUTTING MULTIPLE HOLES with Solid Tools in SketchUp" that explained the process in more detail and I understand it now. Though frustrating, all in all it was a very good learning experience for me. Thank you for taking the time to respond.

@@AVSMedical1 A solid group can't be composed of sub-groups...to cut three openings at the same time, just group all the 'cutting' objects together...and explode anything inside the main group (of three in this case). Hope that clarify.s
