Thank you as always Aaron. I've always been hesitant about changing the axes tool for a specific task because I've had trouble resetting it afterword. As you mentioned, I've used inferencing instead. I'm going to open a file right now just to have fun playing around with this.

You can also use this when you open or edit a group. This then only affects what is inside the group, not the rest of the model

Aaron, while you covered _global_ axes manipulation, the Axis Tool has special functionality for groups and/or components that's particularly helpful when some elements within a model are parallel or perpendicular to global axes and other elements are not. This makes editing geometry a breeze no matter the orientation of the container (group, component) to the global axes. This is often a godsend when working with imported content, as well. I'd venture to guess that every SketchUp user has battled problems associated with containers askew from global axes. Learning how to effectively use this tool saves users countless hours!

Aaron why is that I am not able to get the menu on clicking the axes? I have 2021 Pro. Also would like to know how to. Say I set the red and green. The blue takes the vertical direction downwards. Is there a means to make it point upwards? This is also the same with either the red and green, is there an option to set the direction along the set axis. I am saying this because there is a noticeable difference when I am trying to draw a line or rectangle, I grows in the positive direction of the axis but is kind of difficult to make it do the inference.

Hey Aaron, one thing you could have shown...how objects drawn on say the angled plane react while on that plane. For instance, the push pull tool. Does it pull/ push the circle perpendicular to the face it’s drawn on or to the base plane. I know the answer but for learners for class 101’s. Thanks and stay safe.

Very good information. I just discovered this recently and possibly caused problems for myself. I will have to explore the reset function. One thing I’m experiencing is when I import a model from one saved file into another (either from one I’ve created or from the SketchUp Warehouse), it comes in upside down. Does this happen because I’ve messed up the axis in my model? How do I prevent it?
@AaronMakingStuff3 жыл бұрын
An imported model will align its axis to the origin axis on import... sounds like something may be going on in those imported models!

@@AaronMakingStuff Aaron, does it make a difference when you choose the red and green axis, which direction from the origin (right or left) you choose?
@bobd.2 жыл бұрын
Aaron, If you have moved or placed the axes to align with a face of your model can you then use the buttons on the view toolbar to align your view with any surface? So that the 'Align View' option in the popup menu is the same as using the Top view button on the Views toolbar. It seems like they take you to the same view or is that just a coincidence.

Or do you have an advise how to ease a modeling of a house which is not directly to the north after the downloading the geolocation? Have a nice day.

Not sure if still available, but yrs ago you could purchase blank keyboard overlays and fill in the areas provided for writing in short cuts for any given program. With all the different style keyboard now, who know if they are still out there. Here is one I found. keyshorts.com/products/custom-keyboard-stickers-builder

The shortcut keys can be found in the menu next to each item. There is an option to show screen tips on tool bars (on windows right click anywhere on the toolbar, select [toolbars...] then [Options] tab, finally check the Show screen tips box), I wish they can include the shortcut key in there. Or theoretically you can customize the toolbar item text (on windows) but it doesn't work for me, 1- right click anywhere on the toolbar 2- right click the item on the toolbar 3- select button appearance 4- select Button & Text 5- Set the button text as needed 6- click OK the button now has a reserved space for the text but unfortunately it doesn't appear.
