@@homehome4822, appropriate if they now have limited inventory. People who really value it can still buy it versus keeping it low and just totally selling out. They can restock after the demand surge does down and lower prices. It's not food; this isn't gouging of a necessity in a crisis. Nor is it bait and switch... That would be if they (not a third party just randomly covering it) advertise a $60 product but then make it impossible to buy that version and push you to buy a more expensive version. Actual examples of this would be US tax filing services spending advertising "free" filing on TV and Internet ads but then making that nearly impossible to find on their websites and tell you you need to pay after you've spent 90 min entering numbers or car companies advertising the price of their introductory model vehicles but then only manufacturing a few hundred for the entire country so dealers (who also advertise the intro price) only carry the upgraded, more expensive models and only disclose this after you've spent time looking around. Simply increasing the price of a product when there is more demand is not bait and switch if they never advertised the price themselves...

Back in the days of dialup, I had used a software KVM, between my school laptop and house desktop, it was an encrypted mouse and keyboard server, and for power used wake on LAN. I remember the display could be mirrored, it definitely wasn't 60fps, but I generally had both at the same desk and didn't need it. Don't remember the name, but it was a surprisingly lightweight server for the technology at the time. _(pre-Core2Duo)_

@@conorstewart2214 No, I can only remotely cycle power, but because I have the server auto boot up upon mains power being lost, it has never failed to cycle back onto a good state. Once powered on, I can then remotely access the server normally. A more critical failure where the computer is stuck in a boot loop would require a hands on fix anyways and being able to access the BIOS remotely would just help in T/S before getting home but not fix it. Covid made me hate my job, i spend more time on these 50 checkout laptops than i did managing the 1200 desktops and laptops pre-covid. You likely won't need it for actual USB in a server-device and this way you don't have to pass a cable from inside your case. And if I were the developers, I would also make a version that can toggle the mains power off and on, for systems that don't have regular motherboard headers for power and such (like nucs).

If you want a cheap and dirty power button and reset button pusher, you could use a Pi Pico W and a couple transistors to press the buttons for you remotely. Obviously not as useful as a KVM, but if you know the system is hung and need to reset, or off and need to turn on for remote access with Remote Desktop or something…

This product is great, but it should be easier to use. I would like two USB devices that work together (factory paired). One for my phone and another for any computer, allowing for easy connections much like TeamViewer. I do understand that this is a completely different concept, but it’s something I have been wanting for over 10 years.

That's pretty cool, but given I need these things so infrequently, I think I'll just stick to my PiKVM (which I think is absolutely awesome, every time I use it). But they both look considerable other that the glaring issues you pointed out. Maybe someone will make an open source one using the the RP2040W or if the RP2350 + wifi.

You could write your own firmware for the device or they have said they will open source it in October.

I do wonder how secure these little devices are, and you shared my same findings. Not very safe to use until they open the source. Do not put these on the web or use them in your enterprise.

Might get one of these. I looked at the PiKVM but it's very expensive especially considering it's powered by a low cost Raspberry Pi. My home server doesn't have a display hooked up so it's kind of a pain when I need to troubleshoot.

Or buy a smart plug and set your bios to turn on with power on. And you can turn on your computer with your phone or voice assistant.

Looks cool, but ill wait till another company makes them. No open source firmware, raising the price to 150, and it's from China! I'll stick to bridging the power pins with my screwdriver

It is not a scam company, they have been around for years and are well known in certain areas, this is likely just their most popular new product. The product is just new and you probably pre ordered it. They are very active on twitter if you want to ask them about it there or see their shipping progress.

There’s no copy paste text function sadly which is important when managing servers remotely. Still sticking with PiKVM until they implement that feature.

The $150 is essentially scalper pricing, those are resellers, the official store has not jacked the price up but apparently they may not ship to the US right now according to other comments. Right now in the UK I could order the lite version for £28.42 and the full version for £56.87 including VAT but not including shipping from their official store.
