4:33 for anyone wondering more about why mean lies to the right in this case,it’s because the mean has a tendency to move towards outliers (ie gets affected easily by extreme values), so as there are many outliers in the right, the mean will try to “run off and join them”
@hsbsvvdsjjsbbsbd1871 Жыл бұрын
Can you tell me how is the mean greater than the median then in this case? I'm a bit confused.
@tvvt005 Жыл бұрын
@@hsbsvvdsjjsbbsbd1871 this is because as we move towards the right side of the number line the values keep increasing right? ( for eg 20 lies after 19 in the number line ) So as the mean is further right into the number line than the median, it is greater

Do you have a clip that mentions how to work out median (grouped data, discrete and continuous) concisely, as there is no consistency in many resources. Some are adding 1 some not.

In my boxplot, the box on the right side is smaller than the box on the left. That means : Q3-Q2
@levyaviv19932 жыл бұрын
nice explanation, you should've plot the box graph under the first graph you introduced so we could see how it changes. Meaning if the box is larger or smaller how does that effect the graph? is there any difference in the graph in the two configuration you interduces in the last to examples? etc...

@Kanzu9992 жыл бұрын
I've run into one example that I simply just can't figure out, and it seems like it's nowhere to be found. I have a boxplot where the right tail is longer (so it would be skewed to the right), but the median also lies to the right, so Q3 - Q2 < Q2 - Q1 (so it would be skewed to the left). What is the answer here? Does it just mean that you can't conclude whether it's skewed to the right or the left?

@6:30, where Q3 - Q2 = Q2 - Q1, the bowley measure of skewness would be 0, indicating no skew. However, you say that the whisker being longer still points to some skewness (which I agree to). Where am I going wrong?
