Hello all, here the 2.run from the Women's Slalom II in Levi(FIN). Petra Vlhova out after she was over -1,00 in front, she was on the Way to winning again but she would have threaded.

Vlhova is such a magnificently efficient skier when she really pushes like that, but in this instance Mikaela got into Vlhova's head and Vlhova pulled the string tighter than she needed to or could handle. A few centimeters higher on the line here and there and she would have given up a couple tenths, but avoided the straddle and won.

Idk. She was all out of sorts coming onto the steeps. From the blue after the pin she was behind on her line. Like millimeters between early and clean and late and sloppy.

Yes, Petra is magnificent and on fire. Part of Mikaela's brilliance is her openness to easing off on the most difficult part of a course, then go strong again. Leona Popovic of Croatia was terrific.

I know, it is so cool. Centimeters, ridiculous.60 plus gates on a world cup slalom. Do the math please. 1/10 of a second per gate , your 6 seconds out. Nobody is six seconds out. These women 1-32 all rock it sick every week.👍

That course was set very cleanly, but as the sun was setting, with lights on and rutted out by the 29 others, Petra had a tough time at the long face... she's a hero, and I'm from Colorado (Shiffrin's home)...🎉🎉

Schiffrin ran in virtually the same conditions with 28 before her. She probably ran the coarse as well as any skier could ever have and Petra had to run the coarse the same way but just a touch faster. Very hard to gauge. She pressed too much….

@@tonylewis1803 Not exactly. Vlhova had a 0.76 lead going into the run and was up by 1.06 at the last time check. She simply made a mistake. She was the class of the field all weekend until that straddle.

I'm delighted that Shiffrin took the win, though I'm sure her only positive take on the day is the World Cup points. My condolence to Petra, who certainly deserved the win, but wanted to make a statement on top of it. After taking the best time in both runs yesterday, she went for it today as well, and paid the price on a tricky course. Although it might be slightly disappointing for observers, there's good reason Shiffrin rarely has the best time on the second run, when she leads the first. edit: I think Mikaela Shiffrin is also happy that she's coming back quickly from her recent injury. I wonder if this could be the season of the truly titanic, evenly matched battle between Vlhová and Shiffrin, I've been waiting for since 2016.

I have noticed that as well - that she might have the 3rd or 4th best time on the 2nd run, but she takes such a commanding lead on the first run that she still comes out with the win overall.

​@@lukadrazenovic7247 Well, what I'm on about is that on her second run, she goes a bit cautiously on the trickier parts of the course. Using the 2023 Slalom season: She had 6 Slalom wins. In 5 of them she led after the first run In just 2 of those 5 wins (Levi 2, Spindleruv Mlyn 8), she had the fastest second run. In the other 3, Zagreb, Semmering and Åre, her second runs were 4th, 15th and 14th respectively Levi 1 doesn't count because she was 3rd after the first run In the races she did not win but was leading after the first run, Killington 3 and Spindleruv Mlyn 9, she was 27th and 14th respectively in the second run. Summary: In seven races with first run leads, she had fastest second runs twice. And that was probably her most consistent season to date. I'm not going to bother to do the work on previous seasons. It's possible that she was a second run monster in her record 2019 season, but that was after she finally developed the aggressiveness needed to handle the increased level of competition. Side note, In today's race, she had the fastest first run time of the race finishers. Her second run was 4th. 1st was Popović. 2nd and 3rd were... look it up. edit: I couldn't help myself. I had to go check the slalom results of that magical 2019 season: Mikaela Shiffirn won 8 of the 9 World Cup slaloms plus the World Championship. Leader after first run in the first 8 races. Did not have fastest second run in _any_ of those 8 races. Same in the World Championship slalom Final race - Soldeu: second place after first run, fastest second run and won the race. The most interesting race for me was the one she didn't win. In Flachau she lead after the first run, with Vlhová +.31. I'll never forget watching Vlhová on the second run and thinking that Mikaela can't win this race. I haven't seen Petra put on that spectacular a performance since then until this weekend. I have seen a few times that Petra was equal to Mikaela's best, but this was the top

@@coolgabe64 thats normal here in Switzerland. And in other Languague makes the same. One pro and one Austria or one german pro and one german speaker. You need to know Plaschi speaking very crazy in Swissgerman. Its a very special dialect for hearing. And we have 4 land Languague so, thats Swiss 😄 i will upload the 2.run from mens night giant Slalom in the next 1-2 houer. Then you can hear the special dialect from named (Plaschi). When we say Fussball he say Füssball

Mikaela is such a class act - you can tell that she feels bad for Petra when she sees her straddle the gate and she even says, "Ohhhh, s%&*!" afterward. I'm happy for Shiffrin, so bummed for Vlhova. It should be a really great showdown between the 2 this season. Does anyone know what the announcers are saying at <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="2807">46:47</a>?

​@weedylove It was weird, the way that Petra skied out just after the American commentator reminded us of Killington 2021, when Petra was ahead by about a second in the slalom, and had a huge error that took it away and gave Mikaela the win. Petra was on fire that season, too. Mikaela was still dealing with heavy grief, and she could only win two slalom races. One was because of Petra's mistake, but the other, at Schladming, Mikaela out-skied her. And then she cried. God, that was such a hard season to get through for me. My heart was bleeding for her.

All this talk about dating is a bit misplaced. I thought I heard Lara say that she didn't say she wouldn't date me. In fact she was clarifying that she would. It was just that we had been talking about something more serious than just a date. She indicated that she was not signing up for that (at least not at this time). A number of other people have indicated that they would date me. I think some people are interested in getting some coaching from me (or at least talking about it). I like to think I have generally be doing a good job at that. The people I have coached have generally been very talented. However, I do think I have helped most if not all of them to varying degrees. Since I am having some trouble with Lara, I will try not to give her advice; and I will try not to take credit for anything she does, especially this year. That way I can neither be falsely credited for good performance, nor falsely blamed if her performance is less than some expect.
