This is another reason why I love China so much as my most favorite country in the world: Being such an enormous country, it has such a diversity in landscapes, which includes titanic mountain ranges, vast grasslands and steppes, scorching hot deserts, cold boreal forests, and lush, verdant, tropical rainforests. The other reason is the cultural diversity that is native to this country, with various ethnic groups of different cultural and genetic backgrounds inhabiting various regions throughout China. It's such a fascinating country. 🇨🇳

It sure is fascinating Nicolas, sounds like you've spent some time there? We found the place thoroughly interesting as filmmakers, always something unique and engaging to film.

Yes I felt the same way... It's only a few years ago I began learning about the great topographical and ethnic diversity of China. I was so ignorant... Even the main ethnic group - the Han - has many different sub groups.

For having lived there for 7 years: China and its diversity is beautiful, Xinjiang has awesome landscapes, but what Chinese authorities are doing there, and what Chinese government embodies is evil.

@@brunol-p_g8800 and then there's the americans coming and calling Tuvan people Chinese. But hey, they had fun with the "chinese" , right?

I went there in the winter of 2020. Immediately fell in love with the beautiful scenery and fascinating culture there. Since then I went to Altay in every winter for snowboarding.

This would be a dream come true to ski there. To meet the man who makes the skis, to hit that powder, what an incredibly inspirational experience! So is what those young men said true? Did skiing really begin in that region? Powder like that is definitely way different from blown and groomed snow. It’s different for sure, but for me, personally I prefer the fresh powder over the resort snows. Guys, this was absolutely awesome!! You made me feel like I was there on that mountain. So cool!!
@TheCrew1iOpen6 жыл бұрын
It was a dream of ours to make a ski film, and we are very fortunate to have had the chance. Yes, China claims it started in that region long before Scandinavia. We could have used a lot more powder.
@Amidat5 жыл бұрын
I read a few stories a few years ago in different news outlets that the oldest skis ever discovered indeed were found in that region (which is how I got interested in learning about this region). So the debate started as to who has the oldest ski culture... But by scientific testing of the oldest relics found so far - Altay has the oldest found. But you know how human history is - it changes as new information is learned.

so much room for expansion & winter tourism in this area = destruction of entire people's way of life
@GregoriousGregori92 жыл бұрын
@A regardless of size.. the tourism always goes where the established populations are... & always at one point negatively impacts the indigenous peoples already there.

What a disgusting groundless comment! You're probably brainwashed by your biased media. Btw, there are constructions going on there at the moment. Go there and see yourself!
@Elfangorlanzhou Жыл бұрын
yeah, they trained slaves to operate machinery just to maintain the slopes. they aslo force them to take lessons in skiing, force them to operate ski lifts/trains and accepts jobs in tourism.

Another dumbass Langley shill commenting! Seriously bruh, if there is truly a genocide in Xinjiang that Beijing wanted to hide then there is NO WAY IN HELL the guys who made this film would ever be allowed to go on those Xinjiang backcountry ski adventures they did in the first place! 🤣🤡
