@ReadyAimFiyah Yes that is definitely a worry with a mount like this. If you are going to use is I would make sure that you; 1 tie on the camera and 2 do not leave the camera on the mount for long periods of time. I mount my GoPro on my helmet for most of the day but I would only think of leaving on the ski for part of a run. That way I can make sure that I am careful with it. Hope that this helps. Sucks about your long board mount snapping -Kyle
@kylemartin10113 жыл бұрын
I have to agree. It does get a neat shot but it is not worth losing your camera over.
@kylemartin10113 жыл бұрын
@JulianTanner1 Yes you can get them off. the best way is the heat up the mount a bit with a blow drier then slowly try to pull the mount off. although i do not think that you can reuse them after you get it off. you would have to replace the 3M VHB the dual sided tape. i think that you could buy a roll of the stuff online
@kylemartin10112 жыл бұрын
I think that it would. if I were going to mount it on a snowboard I would use a surfboard mount. It is a lot bigger and would have a better chance of working.
@kylemartin10113 жыл бұрын
@Bmskiboard17 No my mount is not still on. I did have it tied on so did not lose my camera but the adhesive mount is now useless. There have been people that have had luck with it but there are also some that have had it not work. A good alternative to the ski mount is the Ski Boot Mount there has been a lot of success with it. For you it might be better not to try the ski mount (I think it would come off).
@kylemartin10112 жыл бұрын
Cool that is really good to hear about the surf mount working. I will try that next season. It is too bad to hear about the J-Buckle mount I guess that the plastic gets brittle when it is cold.
@videgro13 жыл бұрын
Saw this vid after doing the same setup this past weekend. It gives wicked shots both pointing forward and backward/upward. However, unfortunately, it only lasted a couple of runs before the mount came off the ski. I definitely recommend the leash, and maybe building up glue (such as Araldite) around the edges between the mount and the ski (if you want something more permanent).
@kylemartin10112 жыл бұрын
Yes you will be able to get it off but you cannot reuse the mount after that unless you replace the double sided tape
@kylemartin10113 жыл бұрын
@tcav819 I don’t think so but… I take no responsibility if it does. That said I think that the paint on ski is bonded on really well

@808soccerboy97 The vibration is that that bad. The bigger problem is the fact that the mounts do not seem to be staying on for any length of time.

@shaboobal1 I cannot think on any outers right now. The suction cup “might” work if the Ski is big, flat and smooth enough. Just make sure that you tie it on. If I were you I might skip mounting it on the ski. Then if you want to get shots similer to this I would make a GoPro mounting pole and use that. Then it does not matter what pair of skis you have. Check out my video “How To Make A GoPro Mounting Pole: GoPro Mounting Tips & Tricks” to see how. -Kyle

the closer to your bindings you place the mount the less likely it is to ping off. your skis are thicker near the binding and therefore bend less at these points. its the bending and really low temps that affects how well the mounts hold. ive had a couple on my snowboard for 2 years and still solid.

I've had two full days of skiing with mine using the Hero 3, flat mount and a tether for security. I cleaned the ski surface with alcohol, let it set for two weeks at room temperature and its held up perfectly. See results on my feed

wow this is exactly what i was looking for thank you very much! I'm skiing this february and yeah can't wait to use the GoPro !! ;)

Beware! I wanted to do the same, cleared ski surface, sticked GoPro mounting and squeezed it for >24h with strong spring clamp. In the queue to go uphill some kid hit it with his ski (not even hard!) and the mounting fell off like it was glued with bubble gum. It was around -10°C. I'm going to use super glue and stick it "forever". I don't mind if I won't be able to remove it. Hopefully this will help. So remember to tie the camera so you won't lose it even when mounting will fell off.

I had the same problem that the small adheasive mounts fell off (had the camera attached with a loop to my boot so I didn't lose it) but I got one of those BIG surfe adheasive mounts and stuck on one of my skis had to cut of a small part of the mount so it fit on my ski. testet it today on VERY hard snow it's still there. the only thing that broke was the J-mount.
@area51r13 жыл бұрын
my cousin lost his on the 1st run attached to his ski, if your going to mount on a ski try to use a safety wire/rope of some sort so you got a chance of saving it because your correct the gopros don't belong on a snow ski..

hey kyle, i am going skiing this february in switzerland, i'm definitely bringing my gopro camera! the only thing i am worried about is the adhesive mount snapping.. i attatched one to my longboard about a week ago but when i took it out, the mount snapped when i put the board on the ground, i'm very cautious of the mount on my ski breaking like this too as they are high impact pieces of equipment :/

Here's a little tip for getting a better connection. Before you clean the ski with what ever, sand it down so there isn't the waxy layer on it. I don't know if this will keep it from falling off, but I go kayaking a lot an I sanded my kayak first and it hasn't fallen off yet while one of my friends has.

I have some experience of using both regular and surf board mounts on glossy surface of my GS skis located about 6-8" back from ski tip and both kept falling off after increasing vibration (i guess). Almost lost my GoPro 3+ Black first time when realized it's gone at the bottom of the hill. Next attempts I used string attached to ski boot. Suction cup is better option but obviously won't work on rough or texturized ski surface.
@v12tommy11 жыл бұрын
I don't understand all the comments of them coming off. I did this with a pair of skis that had a metal top sheet. It eventually got knocked off after a cliff jump, but other than that it was totally solid. I mounted mine directly in front of the binding looking forward, but you could easily mount it out on the tip looking back, just use the surfboard mount that has the larger adhesive surface. I've even used the suction cup mount on the tip before without issues, although that was just some high speed runs on groomers.

I used this method to mount my HD Hero 2 to my skis and it worked although I was always terrified of it falling off so I didn't use it much. 145cm skis, pretty close to the tip. I cleaned with rubbing alcohol before and my skis even had a texture... I was skiing primarily blacks. Never came off. Now I have 168cm skis that are completely smooth and a Hero 3+ and I'm not sure if I want to risk it again. Anyway, it's possible, but watch out.

I did this with mine.. The mount itself seems to have held pretty well so far (though i am dubious about its strength if the camera really gets knocked). My camera did fall off but from the buckle breaking and falling out of the mount.. not the mount itself breaking

So what would you recommend as an alternative if the adhesive mounts always pops off? Mine popped off as well, however it didn't have the camera on it at the time. Plus, I may not have put the adhesive correctly, so I am not sure if the mount is trustworthy for the shot you get.

I am planning on trying out the suction cup mount, has anyone had any luck with that? I used it over the summer running rapids in a kayak, and at the end of the day was able to lift the kayak off the ground with the mount. I have a lot of confidence in it, however I know the vibrations and flex may cause a problem, anyone have advice on the matter?

To help with the stick hold a lighter on the adhesive after you have peeled the tape off. Keep heating the adhesive until it starts to bubble, put the adhesive mount on the ski (or wherever) and hold it there until it cools. There is nothing that will pull that mount off now!

I bought one surfmount because of the simple principle: more surface, more strenght for the glue. The vibration of the ski is enough to throw you GoPro away (I have it on record), so be EXTREMELY careful. You can use this with very soft snow, but I do not reccomend this 'cause I almost lose my new Hero3

I don't ski, but I think a good way to ensure the mount doesn't come off would be to drill and countersink a stainless steel flat head sheet metal screw through the middle of the mount after sticking it to the ski or snowboard. It'll never come off!
@click900012 жыл бұрын
This is too risky to mount on skis. It's easy to have the other ski bumping into your GoPro (when you are doing some free style stuffs) There may be lots of snow coming to your GoPro. (even it looks very cool in video) Skis are highly vibrating part when you ski. It may be better to mount on snowboard when no other snowboard will bump into your GoPro. Pole mount may be a better solution to have similar video result. It's really nice to see there is such an approach to do the ski mount. Thanks

IMPORTANT: if you use the white rubber piece that comes with the camera, the gopro will not be able to separate from the mount. It is still a good idea to use a leash, but if you check the rubber piece between runs, the camera will be fine. PUT IT AT THE TOP SO OTHERS CAN SEE

this WILL NOT work for long term i do a lot of terrain park skiing and i have been through 5 flat mounts 1 surf board mount. works for short term shots only. the best way is stick it and use a blow dryer to heat it on. the vibration is bad at high speeds. if you hook it to your boot that works much better because the mount stays out of the snow and dryer. also there is much less vibration than on the ski. check out my page to see some videos of it attached to skis and snow boards mikerees180
