I have a 22 soft top club (LSD rear) with Continental VikingContact 7 snow tires. I use a hard dog hideaway hitch with a Chuck Bucket ski rack. Hideaway hitch is great for hauling coolers and beach stuff in the summer, and skis + tailgate supplies in the winter.

I drive a 1.5in lifted 2023 BRZ Limited 6MT in crazy Jackson, WY snow! Running Sparco Terra Bronze 16x7 with Nokian Hakka 10 Studded in 205/60r16. It is fantastic, especially with weight in the trunk. Definitely get looks from everyone in massive 4x4s. Handling & stopping are obviously strongest due to low weight and center of gravity. Kinda funny timing because I've always owned 4Runner's until recently. Had a 2013 BRZ and V8 4runner for years. Then Golf R manual & V8 T4R. Now I live in a super harsh winter and my only car is the new BRZ :)

I live in Colorado also and I drive my Subaru BRZ in the snow. It's SUPER fun and not sketchy at all. All you have to do is throw dedicated winter tires on it and its safer then most other SUVs I see on the road with all seasons. I also run sea suckers to carry a mountain bike in the summer. They work awesome. Just gotta take care of them and follow the manufacture's instructions for how to use them. A note about seasuckers, if you see orange on the pump, keep pumping them. They put the orange there so that you can tell if they lost pressure. So just keep going till the orange goes away to know you have the correct grip pressure and a good seal.

9:56 - Fellow NC owner getting ready to relocate from Tampa to Denver in a few weeks. It's going to be my daily driver all winter and here's what I would like to see added to the winter Miata series: Winter Maintenance! Are you prepping the undercarriage for winter with a coating? Are you regularly rinsing car/undercarriage? At home/at car wash? Do you have an undercarriage adapter for a power washer? How often? Are sandbags in the trunk helpful or hurtful for the Miata? Increasing the oil weight in the winter? Winter battery selection? Proper summer tires storage temps/is it even worth thinking about? Living hardtop vs. soft top in the winter? Doing anything special vs. summer maintenance at all? Etc.

Ran Seasuckers on my NC as well. Worked great both roof up and down
@pilkjaer10 ай бұрын
How did you manage to put down the roof with seasucker attached? There clearly will be clearance issues as roof is being covered by a panel when closed.
@andersgammelsrd181510 ай бұрын
@@pilkjaer It's not fully covered as you know, so there is still room for it on the front edge of the roof. But I took mine off before putting down the roof and attached it to the panel covering it and placed the other one on the boot lid.

Can you open the trunk? Can you see out the back? Needs a cargo box and traction boards on the roof next😆
@pilkjaer10 ай бұрын
There should be no issues to use the trunk. In worst case you can move holder 5cm closer to the back and then it's 100% will work. I think you can move the skis to the side a bit to be able to see better from the rear view mirror or spread skies so you have a hole in the middle. I see it as a minor issue.
@dff19707 Жыл бұрын
Spread the skis as far apart in the rack as you can, and you might still be able to use the rear view mirror.

Thank you for sharing. I'm looking for a way to attach skis to my NC as well and this might be very useful. Either this or installing a tow bar which not only permanent add 11kg to the car but also make it a bit more cumbersome to use. I probably would spread skis apart or to the side to be able to use rear view mirror. I would probably flip the suckers 180greee as well to open towards the driver side so you can access them directly after leaving the car. My biggest issue with the setup is a need for a garage in order to attach them. When your car is covered with snow and ice you can't just add them. So you basically need to commit to having them on for the winter or find some garage where you can thaw your car in order to attach the suckers. SeaSucker seems to have a new design for their ski holder that no longer uses a lock but you need to use a cable or attach lock directly to them. Not sure which is a better solution but I more like the one you have.

As a proud NA owner, it looks hella sick and hope that I can get a NC too one day, wishing it'll look as good as yours!

How have the Seasuckers held up in really cold weather or heavy snow? Does that impact the suction at all or weaken it's connection with the car?
@FlywheelFilms10 ай бұрын
I keep them pumped any time I stop, and if I climb any significant altitude I also check the pumps with the variation of air pressure and how that can affect it. No issues in severe cold and snow though.

Will it work for a kayak and or paddleboard?

My 2 cents on what else you can add to your Miata would be a Flamin' Red motif on both sides of the car and on the hood. Like those on hot wheels cars. 😃

If you can suction the rear cups to the “hardtop cover” you would still have access to your trunk.
@kssrider6766 Жыл бұрын
From what I can see, he has to remove the skis to access the trunk. It's just a slight inconvenience but that's the best option for carrying skis on a Miata.

Yeah this is more of a fun-and-games rarely used modification. Almost for show at car meets but not much else.

I have an NC too and I am thinking of installing something like this for bike transporting, but I'm afraid, this might damage the roof mechanism. Don't you? I think the roof is not designed to hold this much force. (thinking of drag, created by the bike or your skies)
@andersgammelsrd1815 Жыл бұрын
The roof is pretty sturdy with the front latch locked in. Had no problems with mine
@youmongrel Жыл бұрын
I think they look & work great, BUT... - You get to the mountain - You don't want them stolen - So you put them in the trunk, so convenient - You ski all day - You come down at night - Your roof is snowy, wet, and/or icy... now what? Keep a drying chamois I guess and try to keep the roof dry long enough to reattach these? Anyway I live here and don't ski. I used to but the traffic has killed all the fun.
@TheSkepticalChymist Жыл бұрын
They don't need to be dry to work, just clean. They actually hold better when wet according to the manufacturer. They suggest you just clean the surface and the suction cups with water and leave them a little wet when you attach them.
