The pole plant will help stabilize your upper body as you finish the edge set but it will also help with the rhythm which is key to efficient Speiss. The first one is always the hardest but once you begin to do it rhythmically you can use rebound to help initiate the next one. If you keep a bit of tension in the muscles as you land they will act like springs and and make it easier to start the next hop. You will need use of all the lower joints to hop but you are right that ankles are important.

Hhhmm interesting. I can't say I ever differentiated the the two... speiss vs a hop turn. Thanks for your input.

Thanks very much, I will try this next weekend when I am on the slopes. Maybe I also have to say I am 50 years old, and although quite sporty, no longer as dynamic as a kid ;-) I guess the rhythm is a crucial thing.

I really want to do this, but it's soooo tiring. How do you do it without wasting all your energy, or better said, where does the energy for the hop come from? Does it come from the ankles and the pole plant? Thanks, Frankie

Speiss is a great exercise to work on pivoting and functional joint movement. But IMO your displacing your feet way to much here. Your feet should be staying on the same fall line path making the pivot point right under your feet. I would consider this exercise a hop turn and not speiss

You don't Pivot your skis. Your skis turn which turns your feet which twists your femurs in the socket.

Its an exercise or drill to improve over all skiing not a way to ski.
