Thank you! I'm just beginning to practice skiing backwards. OMG, I made all the mistakes covered in the video. Love this one: "bending over to look behind you" :)

It's good that you're catching those mistakes early on! It's a really important skill to have, and I'm stoked this video helped you on your switch skiing journey.

Do a follow-up video about ski pole management when learning switch. Lots of newbs accidentally touch a pole tip into the snow and jab the handle into their torso. Taking pole straps off wrists (if people have them) is another little tip when trying anything new to reduce potential for injuries in freestyle.
@jasonsong86Ай бұрын
Just don't use poles.
@LanghorstinessАй бұрын
@@jasonsong86 I agree, maybe at first, but people ski with poles. At some point they need to get introduced to riding switch.
@jasonsong86Ай бұрын
@@Langhorstiness You don't need poles to ski. They can be helpful in certain situations but you don't need them always.
@LanghorstinessАй бұрын
@@jasonsong86 As a ski instructor I will say most people who attempt to ski without poles have terrible form, timing, balance, and style. It can be a source of so many bad habits. There's a time and a place for it when learning tricks (like spins, riding switch, etc.) but at some point it's time to stop skiing like a toddler. If you want to ski without poles you are free to do so. Let's agree to disagree and move on.

Great tutorial! I like the 5.5 I do that except I change direction I'll try your way tomorrow. I was practicing Reverting into Switch Tuesday (leaning back while cruising forwards to initiate into Switch) when I noticed someone on my tail copying me. Pretty flattering for I'm not that good! Like the standing drill practicing the proper Switch stance too, I was trying that but not really getting it I noted. My Safety grabs were weak, but my Spreadies were Strong! Almost nailed my 1st Shifty Tuesday so not a bad Day 1 to start the season.

How hard is it to learn to ski switch on regular skis? Do I need to rent some twin tips?
@BaggioVL1526 күн бұрын
I started switch skiing at the first day I tried, it's 1 to 1 the same as rollerblading in anti-rocker skates. The only difference - you can't crossover your feet cuz skis are a bit bigger 😂

I always had this pain on my foot sole when trying this, it feels like a cramp. Any tips appreciated on how I can fix this pain.
@SkiAddictionАй бұрын
Sometimes getting boot insoles can help with this. The issue comes from not being able to fully use your foot. Sometimes it will go away with time, but sometimes it is a boot issue.
@zway436Ай бұрын
im comfortable turning but i always lose it when i do very shallow turns or go straight... the rotation of my hip/ upper body always initiates a turn so i can't really steer if i don't do powerful turns, if that makes sense

Is it easier to switch ski with twin tips?
@SkiAddiction26 күн бұрын
for sure!
@misopasko2614Ай бұрын
Can you ski switch safely with normal alpine skis with flat ends?
@SkiAddictionАй бұрын
You can, but in more choppy or slushy snow it becomes more sketchy. But on prefect snow it is mellow.
@misopasko2614Ай бұрын
@SkiAddiction thanks for the reply. I only ski on perfectly groomed snow, so it should be fine, I'm just scared the ends will dig in the snow even if the snow is flat. Will try your technique tho, might get better at it. Thanks again

I found the last part confusing with all the inside, outside, uphill, downhill, leading, trailing etc… would I be correct in saying: To carve left and right whilst only looking over your right shoulder. You should put more weight on your right ski the whole time?
@SkiAddictionАй бұрын
Yes, there should always be more weight on the downhill ski. It's important to remember on the inside turn that you can't apply as much pressure as you do with an outside turn. If you have more weight on the uphill ski during the inside turn you are a lot more likely to catch an edge. It's best to be patience when you start trying them, and only turn very lightly and for short periods. Good luck with your switch skiing journey!
