Great video. I couldn't find anything about the cl20. Now I know a lot more. Thank you so much. Where did you get the sprockets from?
@StanwoodStudios3 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! I got my sprockets from JD sales inc I just specified pitch and tooth count as I could not find any from Ford or new Holland. Contact Dan at JD sales 610-286-6762

Is there an amount of slack between two wheels that would indicate good drive chain tension and thus no need to actually go into chain cases? My old mustang 411, though old and battered has less than 1/2" movement at tread surface when jacked up and rocking wheels back and forth. Considering the length of these chains it seems to be really good?
@StanwoodStudios2 жыл бұрын
That’s a good question, I haven’t checked the slack from wheel to wheel, only properly tensioned the chains (enough so the chain does not touch the bottom of the chain case when traveling, about 1” of play). I’d bet as long as you aren’t throwing the chain off ever it’s likely fine. It can’t hurt to open up the chain case and inspect though! As you can see my chain cases were in desperate need of maintenance and repair!

@@StanwoodStudios I think my chain cases are my hydraulic tank, that's where the hydro fill and dip stick reside, and I just put $70+ new hydraulic oil in, which is why I didn't want to open it up lol, meanwhile rams pins and hoses are my main issue 😭
@StanwoodStudios2 жыл бұрын
Yes yes, on a lot of modern machines the chain case is the hydraulic fluid tank! I don’t blame you for not wanting to open it! Pins and bushings always seem to be the issue haha

Hey bro thank so much for sharing very awesome video quick question what type of oil can I used on the chains is there any specific type?
@StanwoodStudios3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for the positive feedback! I figured any type really, a motor oil like 10-30 is just fine. Sae 30 or ND 30 is fine as well. Follow whatever the manual says.

Did your skidster make grinding noises before the repair when you tried to turn it? My 1835 case skidster is making grinding noises when I turn in it and the more I turn the harsher and noiser it gets but only when turning I am wondering if what happened to yours is what's wrong with mine.
@StanwoodStudios3 жыл бұрын
When turning under a heavy load or slowing down going downhill the chain would grind or skip, so I knew there was a problem with the tensioner or chain case. You most likely have a similar issue!

so am I right that if you tow one of these not running it turns the engine. I need to move mine to get to a shop.. worried about towing backward and turning engine backward.
@StanwoodStudios2 жыл бұрын
You can’t tow these at all, you can drag them, the wheels won’t turn at all. When I did the engine in this one, I jacked it up and placed it on harbor freight wheel dollies to roll into the shop.

@@StanwoodStudios thanks. Mine is a chain drive CASE. didnt trust pulling it backward in case it did turn the engine. found way to Pull forward. Wheels turned. engine did not. (I marked the fan so could see what blade was on top... it stayed on top... or miraculously every stop I did the fan stopped in same position or the fan belt slid? ). Am in the grass... no little wheels will help

Whats the part number for the idler sprockets or dimensions?
@StanwoodStudios3 жыл бұрын
3/4” pitch 15 tooth idler sprocket with a 3/4” dia bearing ID and a width of 1/2” I bought the sprockets from usapulley.com I spoke to Dan on the phone and told him what I needed, he sent a 60 chain 15 tooth idler 3/4” bore PART# SP6015-12 for around $40 each. New Holland (which supports parts for this machine) didn’t have anything!

Do old skid steers ever rust through anywhere?
@StanwoodStudios2 жыл бұрын
Usually only the sheet metal, if the heavy plate steel on the body is rotten through, chances are the machine is pretty clapped out!!

What kind of oil does the book say?
@StanwoodStudios3 жыл бұрын
The book I have actually doesn't specify, it only details chain adjustment. From all the research I have done online, most people agree any engine oil is fine.. 10w-30, 15w-30, sae30 etc. I find gear oil is too heavy in the cold weather.
@dragonspicks3 жыл бұрын
@@StanwoodStudios ok yeah that makes sense. You could even use chainsaw bar oil. It’s 30w and non detergent.
@StanwoodStudios3 жыл бұрын
@@dragonspicks yeah I think any oil is better than soupy water/ gear oil! Haha
