Few ideas for challenges that we have tried on a few boys trips away. $20 challenge rod and reel outfit must cost under $20 whoever manages to land the best fish (or any fish ) on said outfit. Alvey challenge, best fish landed with an alvey ( landing a barra on an alvey shows tue angling prowess). Coat of arms crabpot challenge roo vs emu. Keep up the funny videos skid.

Maybe take the pots out wider and see if you can catch some blue swimmers , mark the pots on the chartplotter , little chance of getting robbed out wider too . Sand crabs are sweeter imo and the body meat is easier to get out than muddies .

With the circles you don't strike as you said, but you can slowly lift the rod or slowly give the reel a wind and it will help with hook ups. It's just the hard strikes that will pull the hooks out of their mouths

challenge: bring the kids have a contest for biggest and most fish winner gets to choose what and where you eat on trip home(over night beach camping(if they are old enough) saw some of your old vids and your daughter was great addition to your vids crab pots: get some old gear( We used old onion sacks) fill with rocks about the same weight as trap and a good catch , find some old rope about 400 ft (100 m) tie weights(rocks) on rope to keep it on the bottom string out rope as far as possible and use only gear that you don't mind loosing or you could tie rope low on a mangrove root let them pull on that for a while. no trap just a rope we did this at our favorite spots now we fish in peace. suspect were always the same guys. 400 ft of weighted rope is more work than they want to do for a sack of rocks

I'm not sure but I think you should try weight at the bottom with hook about 12 inches up from it and another hook 12 inch above that one here in Humboldt County California that's what alot of us do drop shot rig or fish finder rig some call it but that's just my opinion an your bait you put on is too big the fish are able to grab a huge piece of it with no hook in it an yank the hole thing off cut it into cubs an stack them on that's something ik from experience
