You guys in Vermont have wide superhighways for trails in comparison. LOL. As long as you keep it on edge, very stable even in a 165. Sounds like the new model will be even more stable.

Paragon and Serpo are pretty similar, probably more smoothness and stability in the Paragon with more zip in the Serpo. The M-Pro is rounder in nature than either of the other two. I'd say the Serpo will be a great complement to what you have and is different from the skis that you didn't like.

Hey guys, I need your advice! Been waiting for this review/comparison for weeks - thank you so much for doing these every year! I'm looking for a new daily driver, on piste ski that offers more high speed stability than what I had until now. I'm 5"4, 135 lbs, advanced skier, likes to go fast and already has 3 pairs of skis. What I skied until now: 2011/12 Völkl Wall in 161 (87mm under foot with 16m radius) with center mounted Marker bindings as my main piste / hard pack ski 2012/13 Armada TST in 165 (100mm underfoot with 12,6m radius) with -5 mounted Marker bindings my second main ski that I use in spring, in light pow or every day in the afternoon when the little hills form from all the people pushing the snow around. 2017/18 Armada JJ Zero in 175 (116mm under foot with 16m radius) with - 5 mounted Marker bindings as my pow (15" or more) and touring ski. Völkl and the TST carve WONDERFULLY, like a GS weapon! But at high speeds they get chattery and unstable and they don't love it when it's icy... I'm looking for a more stable ski for hardpack and going fast. I think around 78-87mm with an 18m radius or a tripple radius would be ideal. I don't want a hardcore piste ski like an Atomic Redster or similar. Offpiste performance is of zero concern with this ski. If it were versetile enough for the soft afternoon snow and bumps it would be neat but It doesn't have to be fantastic at that. The skis I'm considering: Armada Declivity 82 Ti Armada Declivity 88 C Armada Declivity 92 Ti Atomic Maverik 88TI Black Crows Captis Blizzard Anomaly 88 Blizzard Brahma 82 Elan Wingman 86 Black Edition Elan Wingman 86 CTI Nordica Enforcer 89 Rossignol Experience 86 Ti Salomon Stance 84 Salomon Stance 90 Völkl Deacon 84 Völkl Mantra 88 Can anyone be of assistance here? 😬
@SkiEssentialsАй бұрын
This is a big list. I do think you can chop some fat by sticking to the more front side-oriented skis of the group. I'd narrow focus to the 2025 Volkl Peregrine 82 or V.Werks (upgraded version of old Deacon 84), Elan Wingmans, and then a few of the narrower all-mountain skis, so Blizzard Anomaly 84 (new Brahma 82) and Declivity 82 Ti. I don't think the other skis are as fitting as what you're describing your application to be, although there are a lot of fantastic all-mountain skis on this list.

Generally, I like skis in the mid to upper-90's range, so I can easily take 5 from there. Camox, Unleashed 98, Justis, Enforcer 99, and Kore 99 are right there. If you're wondering about different widths, I'd say that in ~90 mm range, Anomaly 88, ~105 mm I like the Blaze 104 or Sakana, mid-80's the Nordica Steadfast 85 or Montero AR. In the ~110 wider skis, Declivity X 108 and Unleashed 108.

I'm an expert former pro skier. I can't for life of me figure out what to buy in this category. I need an all mountain, about 14-18m radius pair I can take on the groomers and ski chop/off groomer runs with to the point where the powder isn't bottomless. I sometimes do this on slalom skis rather than my big wide skis that just hurt my knees and clank around anytime they aren't in full on powder. For groomers and working while coaching I use any number of slalom skis but I want something for most days up on the whole mountain. I only find rocker useful (marginally) in all out bottomless powder. Any thoughts? Am I thinking about this wrong? My all time favourite pair for this was the original red and black head monsters (circa 1999-2001 or so). You could charge them into any kind of crud and groomers, even ski bumps with them (not well but it worked). They would do just fine in almost all powder conditions too if you knew what you were doing...
@SkiEssentials2 ай бұрын
I'd put in a big vote for the Anomaly 94, Enforcer 94, or M7 Mantra. Pretty much anything here has rocker--that's just the going rate of ski shape these days in this width category. You're getting close to the 18-meter arc with these, although the M7 and Enforcer feel like they are more capable in the mid-radius range.

Individual, in-depth review probably won't happen until December, but we will have it in a Comparison video and in our Ski Test results, which will be live SOON! It's a fun ski. It's a nice progression from the Vertis. It's kind of like taking a Vertis and giving it a Mirus Cor tip. It initiates similar to the Mirus Cor, but it's straighter through the tail and softer flexing, so it finishes a turn differently. Actually allows for more turn shapes than the Mirus Cor, but doesn't quite get the super round turn with the strong finish like the Mirus.

There's a lower profile in the M7 and this makes for smoother transfer of power from boot to ski, and from turn to turn. It's got a shorter turn feel overall, with more energy out of the tail. The stability and power remains quite similar, it's the turn shape and the comfort at speed that differs most. The 173 gets the shorter arc, so prefers more slalom-like turns. There's really no difference when it comes to skier ability. Both are burly, strong, and incredibly powerful. I find the 94 just a tad easier to turn in more medium radius arcs while the 99 can run straighter and flatter with more confidence. For here in Vermont, it's tough to go against the 94 for most days while the 99 just has a bit more of a freeride character for this upcoming year with the added tail rocker and slightly wider platform.

The noise level is the most notable change. The taper of the shovel in the Paragon is the next biggest one. Since it shares shape with the freeride-based ZX 92, it has a very floaty character. This comes through in the shovel as it has longer and more dramatic taper, as well as rocker, versus the more traditionally shaped Stormrider.

Non race background. 5'10" 230#, mostly on piste, going to 2nd season at 3 vallees this year, whoop! I have been on 184cm x 86mm volkol rtm 's from like 2018 ish, the black ones with the silly vibration damper. Loveeed em. I thought they were great carvers. I could ski powder just fine, great skiis. But I hit a rock at VT and blew out an edge. Soooo..... I guess my old ideal skiis are big shaped skiis. I skiied a big pair of Triple XXXs for many years and that seems to have imprinted on my ski psyches, talk about a BIG shaped ski! I saw the deacon 84 and the maverick 88, kendo 88? some others. what to do what to do? And maybe I don't want to ski on solid metal mass plankers, I like the idea of the colin chapman light is fast thing. My enemy is the alp ice, at my best and with sharp edges this is my skiing rubicon. got to work on that ice. Keep up the great reviewing. Thanks Pat

I have not skied the 186 in the Rustler 9 but have put quite a bit of time on the Rustler 10 in the 186. I think I can make a fairly good estimate of the 9's performance in that length, and I'm pretty sure that the extra 6cm would add a good deal of stability and predictability to the ski.

@@SkiEssentials Gents, I'm looking for some advice/recommendations. Currently I ski my 2020 QST 106 as my daily driver (in Colorado and Utah mainly) and enjoy skiing mainly off trail. Love pow bowls, bumps, trees as my go to terrain. I'm trying to become a better on trail carver and the QST 106 has to be skied in the center to carve (or at least at my level I can't lean to hard on the tips or tails without washing out). I looking in this mid 90s category for a very good carver on trail but would hate to have a one dimensional ski since I truly love off trail skiing. I'm thinking of Rustler 9, Salomon Stance, Blizzard Anomaly and possibly Fischer Ranger. Thoughts? Recommendations? Also, I only have Shift bindings on my skis so a good lighter alpine binding recommendation would be helpful as well. Thank You!

@@cams3425 If you're looking to keep it slightly lighter, you could easily narrow focus to the Stance and the Rustler. Between those, the Rustler is the more playful option while the Stance is quite a bit more precise. I think if carving is more of a priority here, seeing as though the 106 exists in your quiver, the Stance makes good sense to me.

Good stuff here! In search of a replacement for my 19/20 Kore 93. Really interested in the Maverick 88/95. I am 6’2” 265 and really like the feel of a lighter all mountain ski. Will the maverick support my weight as well as the kore does? Would width matter in terms of stability in this ski? I would probably prefer the 88 width for east skiing but not opposed to the 95 if it would better suit my build. This ski will complement a redster q9 in my quiver. As always great video, can’t wait for the 88-92 comparison! Edit: Should I just leave the carving performance to the q9 and pick up a qst 92?
@SkiEssentials2 ай бұрын
Ha! Love the second guess at the end. First, I do think the 88 will hold up to your stats in the 184. You could go 188 in the 95 if you want more stability, but it just doesn't turn as well as the 180 or the 88 in the 184. Same type of light performance as Kore, so this is a nice move. Second, I do think there's plenty of difference between the Q9 and the Maverick 88 (or other skis in this range)--no need to go with a more freeride-based option like the QST.

It's a very good choice. The metal handles the firm snow and the progressive shape takes care of anything soft or manky. They're both fun and high-performance at the same time. In this range, similar to the Rustler, I'd also check out the Line Optic 96 and the Fischer Ranger 96 as comparisons.

Thanks for your great reviews! I want to get a new all round ski, 70% for slopes 20% park 10% outlands. Id go for Bent 90, Oblivion 84 or 94. Im riding for more than 20 years and want to start with park sort of things and play a little more on the slopes. In reviews they say that the Bent 90 is a little poor quality. Is this true? If so, would you recomment Oblivion 84 or 94 for me? Thanks a lot!
@SkiEssentials2 ай бұрын
The Oblivion skis certainly feel more stout and better constructed--most skiers who put casual use on the Bent 90 will never notice. The Oblivion 84 is a standout, though, with a stiffer flex, increased camber, and thicker sidewalls than the 94. If you are spending most of your time on the trails and in the park with minimal soft snow, the 84 is a league above most other skis in this category.

I was a Bridge 187 skier for a few years--loved them! I think the Blaze 94 is more similar than Rustler in terms of energy and grip, although the Rustler is closer when it comes to profile. The nice thing about the Rustler, though, is that you can go a bit longer to the 186 and you're getting more metal for increased support due to your stats. That said, I think I'd take the Blaze in the 184 at 6/2 225 over the Rustler in the 186 if I could choose one.

Have you tough about making a mid-90 comparison in 2 Parts like you just did with 100mm skis from playful to more stable and carving oriented? I am asking this cuz' its hard for me to choose between Maverick 95Ti, Rustler 9, QST 98, Stance 96, Unleashed 98. Essentially, I would like to learn how to ski trees and 4-6 inches of powder but also be able to carve on groomers. I am intermediate - advanced 6'4'' 210 pounds, but I would consider myself a beginner when it comes to freeride (trees and a bit of powder).
@SkiEssentials2 ай бұрын
We may have to next year if we decide to bring more skis into the mid-90's mix. That said, the Unleashed and QST are both in the 100 mm comparison, with the QST falling more on the freeride side mainly because the Stance 102 from Salomon is in the All-Mountain division. Further, I'd say the Rustler and the QST 98 are your two best choices of the skis on your list because they both float well, are amazing in trees, and function great on groomers. Amazing for learning and progressing.

The 9 is more versatile than the 10 overall, especially here in Vermont. Sure, on deeper days, I'd take the wider ski, but for an everyday option the 9 makes more sense. I'd personally put them over the Rangers in terms of smoothness, control, and overall satisfaction.

Hi guys, love the videos. Would like to ask your advice on a pure in-piste ski. Not going to be used at all off-piste. I am looking for something that would be very stable at high speeds, no twitching, no floating and no vibrations. Cutting through all types of snow, even if going straight down above 90khp. In-piste, I am not really interested in carving, more super-G turns at high speeds. I am 6'2 and 200 pounds and I usually do not have problems getting the edges into the snow, so I also do not mind having wider in-piste skis. Stability is the main goal. But also the skis need to be very good at getting grip on an icy surface. All the best.
@SkiEssentials2 ай бұрын
Are you looking for pure and narrow? Atomic G9 or Blizzard WRC is the place to be for stability at speed and race-like feel. For a wider carver, like in the mid-80's range, the Stockli Montero AR or Blizzard Anomaly 84 are wonderful and somewhat versatile.
@Nisschgl2 ай бұрын
@@SkiEssentials I guess I need a bit wider ski. I ski a lot the whole season, also in springtime so it is icy in the morning and slushy in the afternoon. Thus the ski must handle both ice and slush really well. So a ski for all in-piste snow types. I do not have a lot of experience with narrow skis but I imagine they would easily get stuck in slush. I would also imagine wider skis would be better when going straight down in high speeds. Right? Maybe then the 84mm would be preferred for me, either the Stöckli or Blizzard.
