Hang in there Homie. I did this exact same thing in 97. At A basin. I came out from the Midwest with big dreams. Hit some rocks, ended up in the hospital in Denver for 10 days with a ruptured kidney… No joke. I actually ended up at Grand Targhee later that season, one of the best spots in the world. That event reset my aspirations and took my life in a different direction, I went home and went back to college…

Tip: If Ski Patrol saves your bacon, you should do something. If you ask if you "should do something," they will likely be coy like she was. I had a ski patrol guy look for my ski and found it after a good while. I slipped him $50 (although $20 would have been fine) and said, "will you do me a favor and use this for the Ski Patrol beer fund?" For routine stuff its probably not necessary but this guy found one of my brand new Mantra skis!

I had a similar situation skiing the Lake Chutes in Breckenridge. Popped out of my binding, slid about 50 yards , hit a rock, my knee was scraped and bruised and my ski was somewhere up top. I had no way up or down. Another skier found my ski and bought it to me. I was ok physically, but my day was over. A fall like that can mentally break you, and remind you that the mountain is always in charge.

OMG can’t get enough of your channel, and a lot has to do with how incredible the quality is, the shots you take, editing, and content of course. I have to ask again, what settings do you set your GoPros too? And your drone? If you don’t mind sharing. A few times a year I get the chance to head out to snowboard and shoot, and I prefer to take it to that higher level for fun. I love shooting, editing, use Premier Pro, etc .... so that’s why I’m asking. So appreciate any insight, such as do you use an ND filter for your Mavic2 (I have the same one) or an ND/CPL combo filter? Assuming you shoot in 30fps... or 24? I have so many questions lol. Not sure how many of us that watch would be interested about learning ... but maybe posting a few vids about your process/techniques/settings etc could be desired! Keep rocking man, and thx for any response.
@LucasCatania173 жыл бұрын
rolan my man thank you for your support dude! so stoked you enjoy the content. i will do my. best to answer your questions! 1) GoPro Settings: 2.7k 4:3 60 FPS. I do this so I have a taller frame to fit myself in and use 60 FPS to be able to slow motion. If its super epic, I will do 1440 120 FPS for super slow motion. I also have Protune On, shutter speed to 1/120 or 1/240 depending on my frame rate, ISO min/max 100 and white balance I usually manually set depending on conditions. 5500 if its sunny and 6000 if its overcast. i also set my EV to -0.5 to make sure the snow is never blown out. I almost always have a polar pro ND filter on my gopro so I can slow down the shutter speed. 2) Drone Settings: 4k 30 FPS in d-log. Aperature usually around f/9 and shutter speed 1/60. I use a polar pro ND/CPL combo filter on my drone to help cut reflections on water and vehicles etc. I edit everything in 23.976 FPS in Premiere Pro. My main camera, the Canon EOS R, I shoot everything in 1080p in C-log. I export almost always in 4k for youtube so everything is getting upscaled but i find that youtube gives more bitrate to 4k exports so its still better quality. i love color grading so every clip is shot as flat as possible and i manually color every clip to really make them pop. i have a few luts i have created to just help speed up the process. I hope this helps homie!

@jamesmccalvy91603 жыл бұрын
Targhee is on my hit list! I hope there is a part two to this story. I had a ski pop off one spring day up at Brighton before I had fat skis. I was hitting a small cliff on the Milly side that had a little 3-4 ft drop followed by a 10-15ft (???) drop. I landed the smaller entry drop only to have my one ski sink way in and stay put. Needless to say I took the bigger drop doing a superman off of it. Thankfully I cleared the rocks and had a fairly soft landing. My wife and nephew witnessed the whole thing. My nephew decided not to hit it after watching me fail! LOL!! Theres probably some grainy flip phone video somewhere. That was a good wake-up call though. A reminder to stay humble and to try to be prepared for the unexpected. The mountains have a way of humbling you quick. Your mentality sounds a lot like mine too. I end up skiing by myself a lot too and poking around looking for challenging terrain. I've stood atop and below many cliffs weighing the pros and cons. I usually talk myself out of them because it's just me. Chances are everything will be fine. But ultimately, I want to make sure I can ski the rest of the winter and keep supporting my family. Great video though! Hope your not too dinged up.
@LucasCatania173 жыл бұрын
thank you james! part two of the story will be out friday! and man! sounds like you went for a gnarly ride hah! nothing worse than sinking into the snow and losing a shoe! definitely can be humbled very quick in the mountains, especially at resorts like targhee and brighton! its always a delicate game of threading the needle between getting to that challenging terrain and doing what makes sense riding solo! thanks for stopping by the stream tonight! im feeling better and had to ski some pow as therapy haha!

I used a mount meant for bike handlebars but it was such a pain to take the camera on and off I stopped using it. When you feel up to it can you put a link or the name of the clamp you use? Thank you.
@LucasCatania173 жыл бұрын
hey steve. im feeling better! recovering well. thanks for checking in! and for sure dude! the mount i use for my ski pole is called the "gopro handlebar/seat post/ pole camera mount." its made directly from gopro and i just put it on the end of my pole tip! and then its small enough so when im not using it, i just throw it in my pocket like you saw! its honestly really nice and cost $30. definitely worth it!

Lucas you might have shared this info before so sorry for asking if it's info already available but can you share the specific mount that you are using to connect your GoPro to your ski pole? I've tried a couple of types of mounts but haven't found one that I really think fit the role best. Before I go and design my own pole mount I wanted to see what you are using.

Hey joe. I am using the gopro handlebar/seat post/pole mount made directly from gopro! It’s $30 and well worth it in my opinion!
