We take you down Belt Parkway, a classic blue trail on Hunter Mountain in upstate New York. This was opening weekend in 2019 and the first time I skied on my new Soul 7 HD skis. Not really an east coast ski, but whatever.

Nice video. On a crowded weekend, the Belt Parkway is one of the most dangerous trails anywhere. It has crowds of people on skis for their first time mixed in with people flying down the hill out of control. But, Hunter is a great place to ski nevertheless.

@@yochillfelix yeah, Hunter being close to NYC can get rowdy on weekends. And this is the only way to get down for intermediates and "brave" beginners, so on weekends it can be a real dodge game on this trail. Fridays are probably slightly better.

the trail is the most common way down, so its very icy even if it's a blue square nevertheless, it's still a good way down, i just prefer hellgate or the cliff

How would you rate this for a new skier who’s taken lessons and gone by themselves a couple of times? Feasible without looking like a fool?

I dont think it should be about "looking like a fool" but rather being confident that you can stay in control all the way down. If you can, then this is fun trail. We have friends who only skied for 2 days and went up Hunter to ski this. I am not sure I would recommend it to others to go so early. But it is true that this is the easiest way down from the very top and so if a brave beginner or intermediate skier wants to go to the very top, get the views and enjoy long slide down this is the way. And overall it is not too bad. But there might be some risks... 1- it could be overcrowded (esp on weekends) with skiers who have mixed bag of skills, some might be fast, some zigzaging, some learning, some out of control. So, if there is tone of people on this trail, it may not be "that much fun", after all it is a "belt parkway" meaning it is kinda narrow, with a rock wall on one side. 2- several spots in the upper section are a bit narrow or icy. The mountain sheds water and it turns into ice, if there was not snowfall or if they didn't make new snow, the scraped areas could be pretty icy. Once you get over those the rest is probably okay. I think you can always start on the left side of the mountain, and work your way to the right. The slopes are progressively more steep. And if you can comfortably ski the blue ones from the "red poles" lift, then yuo can very likely ski this as well.

I think if you have tried a blue before it shouldnt be too hard. The hardest pert would be the top section, after that it is pretty mellow

did you know HUNTER MOUNTAIN ADVERTISES A TRAIL ‘TOP EXPERT’ ? No other ski resort in the U.S. has one. Plus, Eurpeons ski K-27 at the beginning of the season. HOW ABOUT THAT.
