Yeah definitely go up in the spring! Not many low angle drops up there though, just so you know, most things are 30º+, besides the Sherburne. Thanks for subscribing! More ski videos out soon 😎

Great footage! Planning on trying out right gully early may. And tips or suggestions from your experience? Thanks in advance!
@MacLeanWright
@MacLeanWright 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much!! Yeah for sure, I would go maybe late April rather than early May because there's a better chance of being able to skin in longer and also ski out longer (on the Sherb). That being said, go when there's good weather, its so much more fun in the sunshine than in the clouds 😊 Also, try to make your pack as light as possible. Carrying your skis on your back is so heavy, and so you want to lighten it as much as possible. There's a water pump up by the hermit lake shelter, so you can refill water there, this means that you can bring next to no water as a way to lighten your pack. Just bring what you need to get yourself to the refill station. For me that was like half a liter after chugging Gatorade right before we left haha. You can also filter water in streams and rivers along the way up or down if you run out, but lessening your water weight is a great way to make your pack lighter! If you have more questions DM on Instagram 😊

Looks like a great day out - and not too many people out and about. Quick question: at the beginning, in addition to doing your avy beacon check, were you also measuring the weight of your pack? If so, why? For the walk in comfort factor, or also for the actual climb up /skiing itself?
@MacLeanWright
@MacLeanWright 2 ай бұрын
Just weighing the pack for fun 😊

Hey i was wondering if you've ever popped out of your bindings on hard pack what was the motive for locking up your bindings
@MacLeanWright
@MacLeanWright 2 жыл бұрын
Good question. The reason I locked them out here is because I had popped out the week before skiing a different chute in VT. I had ice in the toe piece of my boot, and because I was rushed by my ski parter I didn't spend the time to make sure I was properly in the bindings. That being said locking out the toe of the binding isn't a bad idea on something as steep and icy as this was. You have to make a decision whether the risk of blowing an ACL or losing a ski would be more catastrophic in the given scenario. 99% of the time you want your ski to eject but sometimes you don't... haha

I was going to ask what size ski you were on. This will be my first year backcountry skiing and went with the Fischer Hannibal 106. Though I’m not planning on doing too much in the Whites especially before softer spring conditions. How do you like that width in most other winter conditions in the Northeast? I plan to go mainly in Vermont and maybe a little bit in MA if we get enough snow
