My first time snowboarding Tuckerman's Ravine. Failed the second self-arrest attempt due to improper grip of the axe. Luckily made it out with just a couple scratches.

Looked like pretty firm can’t fall type conditions. Thanks for sharing.

Yeah definitely, learned my lesson for sure.

WTF- None of the terrain looked favorable for riding. Tons of exposed rocks, shiny ice and shrubbery. I am astonished at the attempt let alone you were able to get up from that.

Welcome to the east coast lol

Might be wrong, but looks like you got some boot drag, which caused the slide outs. I started riding wide boards for this exact reason, with 10.5 boots. It's important to be able to rely on your edges.

That was defintley a factor. I was using a gnu headspace which has way too much play for that kind of terrain which also played a part in losing my edge. Plan on getting a sturdy wide board next year!

What was the date you were up there? I’m gonna hit the ravine soon. Just curious what you found was the “ideal” time
@Odhege82622 ай бұрын
When the weather and avalanche forecast align. That is the ideal time to go.

Man wrong way to hold the axe for a self arrest experience iz key

And should he have a wrist strap on the axe so he doesn't lose it?
@jakemedeiros4571 Жыл бұрын
No
@olivierleduc7305 Жыл бұрын
@@andyrobinson339 no, ideally if you loose grip on the axe, you want it away from you, not spinning on the end of a strap! on his case, he was mainly holding the shaft of the axe, im actually surprised he manage to hold on the axe on the first self arrest! the best way is to hold the handle (top part of the T like you would hold a cane)

Bravo! At 30 seconds into your video you showed us the "Boot Drag" potential and then (like a good Hitchcock film) we were in suspense....waiting for the inevitable and then........no axe? You came very close to disaster but Tuckerman was a merciful teacher to you that day (because you have balls of steel)! (Does wearing a helmet give one a false sense of safety?)
@JaredG_WVАй бұрын
No, and if wearing a helmet makes your overestimate your abilities, its time for some lessons.
