There is no better representation of the historic crossroad of cowboys and skiers in Jackson Hole than the sport of Skijoring. The race consists of an adrenaline packed 15-20 seconds where a skier gets pulled behind a horse, reaching speeds of up to 40 miles per hour while maneuvering various gates and obstacles. One of the fastest sports on snow returned to Jackson Hole Mountain Resort in February and the action was hot!

Well fuck me running. The other day I was looking back on my life and thought to myself that I was content with what I had accomplished. I found myself myself feeling proud that I could go to my grave content with a life that seemed complete and well lived. But now I just discovered skijoring and now have to face the crushing realization that my life will never be complete if I don't try this at least once before I die. 😪

what a great sport for the horses, they love snow, the cold and no bugs . Hope this sport grows more popular

seems needlessly dangerous for the horse with all that carving. Im just waiting for someone to yank the ass-end of the horse out from under it. From a raw competitive standpoint, the performance of the horse if a huge variable. Who are they testing the skill of here? A speed regulated snowmobile would be more consistent and more humane. Working horses is cool. But this seems little off. Yanking hard sideways at a horses ass in full gallop across slippery rough terrain seems like an accident waiting to happen.

@@doggodoggo3000 The ropes are attached at the back of the saddle which is around the middle and front of the horse. You likely weigh less than 200lbs and the horses are over 1,000lbs. They also have spiked horseshoes so if you could pull it off its feet while on skis I'd be very surprised. Having a faster horse is also a part of the competition. Your argument is like saying horse racing is dumb because the horses aren't all the same speed so they should be replaced with motorcycles but that's part of the sport.

@@linkon7605 Horse racing IS dumb. Many many horses die every year. Its straight up animal cruelty. Even people who participate in other equine "sports" dont have anything good to say about horse racing. More and more people are waking up to how awful horse racing is. This skijoring bs is dumb too. We need to add an amendment to the animal welfare act to ban all forms of "animal racing."

@@Turboy65 you don't have to be a bleeding heart to think racing animals is cruel and stupid. Rick Gore from the channel good luck America is a military veteran, retired cop, gun nut, trump supporter, who lives in Texas. Very much not a bleeding heart. He thinks racing and animal sports are dumb and cruel also. Racing in particular is very similar to fighting. I worked in dog sled racing, training dogs to win a race is exactly the same as training them to fight. I'd argue fighting is less cruel and the training more well-rounded tbh.

We don't get snow so we do a bit of sliding/joering on sand a mix skis snowboard - We normally use mountain boards ( off road skate boards ) in the racing over here with rider its a round a coarse through gates Ok we also do joering off a board using ski joering frame. you guys should try hooking up the some of the mountain boarders you have out in the States. They do mix down hill Boardx and freestyle over ramps :) it would be some summer fun :) you can find us on facebook come say hello i know a few of the boarders that what to have a try at skijoring racing :) Put them on a snowboard they would be pulling tricks off the ramps behind the horses

If you think that snow is soft think again. Their clothing may make the falls less painful, but after those horses run through the course a few times the snow is fairly well packed.

It’s really not. I mean, there’s always an element of risk involved with anything on a horse, but the rope isn’t tied to the horses backside so a rider yanking the ass end out isn’t a worry. The biggest risk would be normal horseback things like the horse tripping. But a 1000+ lb horse pulling an at max 200lb person isn’t extreme. Nothing inhumane about it.

@@doggodoggo3000 have you ever spent any time around horses? Like considerable time, building a relationship with one? Are you disconnected from that type of life ie: live in a city as opposed to the countryside? What makes it inhumane to you? Would it be more humane to not give the horse a job, and let it graze a pasture for the rest of its life, getting soft and packing on fat and simply existing like most humans do? (which most horses end up doing anyway after they’re retired from working) They can’t just set it free into the wild, it would die. So that’s not humane. But I’m curious to know why you think it’s inhumane for an animal that science has shown, likes to work, to work in this capacity. Is a 1000+ lb animal pulling a 150-200lb person really that inhumane? The horse is certainly capable of doing so with ease. And again, science shows that horses enjoy working (they’ll let you know if they don’t.) but ultimately I’m just curious as to why you think this is inhumane.

@@doggodoggo3000 for the record I’m not being argumentative, condescending towards you, or anything like that. Just looking to hear a different perspective. A better question would be, do you believe riding horses in general is inhumane?

@@taylorallen6877 no. I have worked with animals for most of my life. I grew up around horses, I take care of other peoples horses even to this day. I just got out of working at the winning level in dog sled racing and it woke me up to the issues that are inherent to these competitions that use animals. Especially races. I pleaded my case about the issues that I see in this particular "sport" in my original comment. Upon just the slightest bit of research it turns out I was right. This has killed horses. Rick says it pretty well. Check this video out: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eZuTg4qvl7Nme8k I asked Rick once about this " We banned animal fighting in 1966 with the animal welfare act. Is that a violation of american rights? Is racing similar to fighting? Should we get rid of racing? " something like that. His answer in a nut shell was "Racing is similar to fighting. We have to protect the innocents who cannot protect them selves. Children and animals need additional protection." I dont remember verbatim but its on one of his streams.
