I only got this Skil 12v impact wrench a couple months back because they had the deal where you buy a 2 pack of the new updated Skil batteries for $79 and you got a free tool. I really just needed some new batteries for my other tools. Figured why not I’ll keep it on my work van. I already had 4ah batteries but I will say that the impact wrench can do lug nuts at 150 ft lbs fairly easy when using a 3/8” drive socket(21mm). I was actually impressed with it for the price.

@Techprep23Ай бұрын
That is exactly correct. DeWalt does the same thing I have both their impact driver and impact wrench they're 12 volt xtreme line. It does come in handy on applications you would normally use the hex to socket adapter and you can just bypass the adapter and use a shallow socket and get into smaller spots without having a two or three inch adapter and then a shallow socket. Both tools are set up exactly the same you have a torque control mode speed 1 and speed 2 torque control is nice or whatever DeWalt calls it because as soon as the tool feels it needs to start impacting it just shuts off.

Test the 20v Skil tools against Hyper Tough 20v tools and other brands. The Skil 12v tools seem weak. How did you come up with the total scores. When I add up all of the scores the totals are completely different than what you show?
@zacksintheshopАй бұрын
The score for cost is subtracted from the total, maybe that’s a difference. If it still doesn’t look right to you, I’ll go in and double check. I created a scores just based on my previous experience using the tools and what I would value the most. So, it is subjective in that way.

Both tools are very close in performance, but it seems as if HT is better at reverse than skils, just based on that lug nut test. Frankly, a bit surprised skils couldn't get the lug nuts off. Maybe its that adapter ruined its abilities?
@engineer_alvАй бұрын
I'd say the HT got the advantage because that lugnut was already used by the Skil so it might have lost some of its tightness by the time the HT came in. It would've been better if he retorqued it before using the HT

This little 3/8 hyper tough has been good for what it is for its price point but definitely not a strong little gun I’ve struggled taking lug nuts at times And it cannot take out any caliper bracket bolts when doing brakes so instead I just use it for small torque application stuff where I know it’ll take it off

Torque test channel does the same thing nowhere in a real world application are you going to take that 12 volt ⅜ drive impact " wrench " and use a one and an eighth socket. Most 3/8 drive socket sets end at 19 so the question would be what is the torque output in foot pounds of a 19 mm socket. The highest set I've seen is tekton and they go up to 24 mm and 1 inch in there 3/8 drive socket sets because I have both shallow and deep metric and SAE combo sets from them. so anything larger than a 24 mm would be out of the realm of possibility for this impact wrench which like the dewalt 12v xtreme version i have basically their impact driver with a 3/8 drive anvil instead of a quarter inch collet. That skill 3/8 drive impact wrench is spec'd as the same as their impact driver that is currently on sale at Lowe's for 50 bucks. And it's rated at 1,450 inch pounds which translates to about 120 ft lb. So to get a hundred and one foot pounds adapting to a half inch drive socket leaves the question of wondering if you're leaving some foot pounds on the table by using a socket too big
@zacksintheshopАй бұрын
Yes, I agree that some of the applications are a little bit out of scope for this tool. Several of the viewers always ask about lug nuts in particular so I try to include that feature on the video.. I myself use the compact 20 V wrench in my car kit. I tried to mention when I do impact wrenches that some of the testing is inspired by torque test channel which is one of my favorites. One day, I need to test some of the torque loss on the fittings because the impact driver actually came out more powerful on the force gauge than the impact wrench. That could definitely be explained by fitting loss.
@engineer_alvАй бұрын
for the record this is a 22mm socket so more like 7/8" there. But I get your point and it definitely affects the torque output of these two.
