*My 10 fav tips for Skill Boarding...* 1. Mini is harder, Standard is more versitile. 2. Smooth for barefoot, Grip for shoes. 3. Start with a small ball on carpet, holding a chair. 4. Clear 4-5 feet of space and remove sharp objects. 5. Begin with 2-3 psi and work up to 6-9 psi. 6. Practice mounting and dismounting. 7. Practice rocking back/forth and left/right. 8. Get creative and invent some tricks. 9. Deflate to 5 psi when done to protect the ball. 10. Have some damn fun! In the same vein of body weight and stability exercises, the balance board would partner nicely with a TRX Suspension Training System. They're pretty cool. Dynamic adjustments, stabilizer engagement, could be right up your alley.

Yea, definitely! It's the same kind of minimalist yet involve-the-whole-body type of gear that I love.

I don't know if I like the concept of rolling for training board sport balance because it seems like it would teach you to overcompensate. In a board sport, you mostly need to learn to compensate for changes in speed/vector only. When you compensate on a rolling board like this, you have to compensate much more aggressively, because the fulcrum always changes simultaneously with the speed. In a sport, your fulcrum is typically stable.

Interesting theory! Can't say I've experienced any ill effects, but it has definitely improved my reaction time, because of how unpredictable it is.

That's like saying you shouldn't learn to play tennis because it will make baseball harder. Don't see the logic in your concern. The body can do MANY activities.

as someone with practically zero balance and hand-eye coordination, these are really useful for teaching you how to feel your center of gravity it basically teaches you how to think about balance, which you can then adapt to your skill of choice

Can this be used at a standing desk while working, along the lines of a treadmill desk minus the walking?
@AndrewFolts2 жыл бұрын
It's probably too unstable/challenging for that with the regular balls, but you could get one of those half-dome balance balls to put it on, which would be better for longer standing sessions. amzn.to/3hXunck I generally prefer to sit, get a lot of work done quickly, then get up and do some Skill Boarding or other exercise. Although one of those curved treadmills would be cool!

TerraFlex from XeroShoes might be a good option. Has a pretty aggressive tread for mud, but still decently flexible: bit.ly/3W4wycC

theres actually evidnence that shows that balance boards dont strengthen the ankles and thus the foot
@AndrewFolts2 жыл бұрын
I can assure you that's not the case, ha. My calves were burning after spending fifteen minutes whizzing around on the Mini board. It's physically impossible to exercise and not build some sort of strength.
