+Nicolas Bruno Takenit Dos Santos One way of doing it is to " clip up "...find the distance with a small bomb then clip the line on to the reel. That way you don't over cast and end up on the island!

Hi, im a beginner and i've been trying to fish in a small river, probably half the width of the one in this video. however my float seems to always drift down with the current, is this because my bait isnt low enough (over depth by few inches)? or how would i fix it. -i've read that sinking the line helps but it did nothing for me. -i havent plumbed the depths

Totally different ball game on rivers, you will be fishing a moving bait. Far more to it that we can explain in a single comment but have a google and they will be plenty of information about.

I noticed that you flick the rod tip upwards after the float hits the water, why ?, with feeder fishing and waggler I normally tried and sink the line, does this do the same ?

How would you find the depth if you never seen the venue before?

Just use a plummet before fishing and work from that

Cast over with a plummet. Takes a bit more work.
