All Naval Aviators are skilled, especially those who operate on Carriers. The carrier guys and gals are successful aided much by the talented deck crews that keep them from screwing up. I was a carrier instructor in VT-27 for a few years and a COD pilot, later a P-3 driver. I loved carrier ops but we did our qualification traps in daylight VFR, not night time in nasty weather. I got my combat time flying at 1500’ at night over jungle roads and trails with VAH-21. I loved it all, every minute. My dad flew B-17s in WW-2 and he was there in Corpus Cristi to witness the pinning-on my Navy wings. I miss my birds and my buddies, but I still fly with them every night, in my dreams.

When I was in the Navy, I was stationed at NAS Pensacola Florida. I saw many pilots come there to practice landing on a carrier. It was the USS Lexington. While I was there the movie Midway was made and used the Lexington in several shots in the film.

When a pilot has to roll up his sleeves on a flight suit it just means he can never eject. He can’t reach the handles or his wallet in the O-club

@ He’s got short arms. If he had normal sized arms he wouldn’t need to roll them up. Short armed men often can’t reach their wallets when it’s time to pay. Short armed pilots can reach their wallets when eject handles. Get it?

Yeah well back in the day when my WSO and me were flying F4's over Nam, escorting A6's, we got raked by AA. It wasn't until we got back to the JFK, were we told that we had no landing gear or arresting hook. Naval Aviators have to think quicker than most other Aviators. As it was Sea State 5 and very low visibility, on the second approach, I checked my Wizzo was ok, flipped the Phantom over 180°, and caught the #3 wire whilst upside down. Luckily, the tail caught the wire. The Navy was very happy, as they didn't lose an expensive aircraft. I've been teaching Naval Aviators how to land anywhere, upside down ever since. And if you believe any of that, my wife never burns or overcooks a single meal.

I served on the USS Coral Sea CVA 43 & see that they have a new launch system & landing. We had a steam system for launching planes Plus we had 3 cables for the plaines tail hook to catch plus they had enough power that they could take off again if necessary. I was a red shirt but never worked on the flight deck. What carrier is this video?

Un atterrissage sur un porte avion s'appelle un appontage, sinon je n'ai pas vu de pont "Bondé" d'ailleurs ça n'existe pas un pont doit être net en cas d'appontage.

As a retired AF crew chief I laughed at the inadvertent sound of a prop acft while watching the jet taxi. It reminded me of the movie "airplane".

did you forget the A4 skyhawk and the F8 crusader or the vigalante during the Nam war
@mike9347Ай бұрын
@@davidharris2519 I think the Royal Australian Navy have the A4 Skyhawk the nic name, "the Flying Brick". Because of its ability to drop out of the sky in a split second.
@Roberto-oi7lm14 күн бұрын
@@mike9347 What? The A-4 has the lightest wing loading of any U.S. tactical aircraft I know about in the last 50 or 60 years. It was the opposite of a brick, at least as far as high performance aircraft are concerned.
