Boredom is truly a thing that happens in chess. I'm probably not in the position to say this cause I'm just 1400, but before I just kept playing e4 as white and Sicilian as black because that's the opening I'm most comfortable with. But eventually, there came a time that I really got bored and started to play d4, c4, king's indian, pirc, caro-kann, etc.

How applicable is the Casablanca rule of putting your pawns on squares of the color of the bishop you’ve lost, while putting your pieces on the opposite color squares? Also, where can I learn more chess rules like this?

10:50 you rank them by how dominant they were in their respective era, that is why paul morphy actually should be higher up.
@Corteum
@Corteum 3 жыл бұрын
Nah, rank them by multiple objective factors -- their avg move quality, avg blunder/inaccurate rate, etc, using computer evaluation. It's the most reliable and accurate way to eval players. See Guid and Bratko on estimating world champion strength for instance.
@siraf1234
@siraf1234 3 жыл бұрын
@@Corteum This is a completely incorrect way of doing it, how can someone like for example paul morphy play at the same strength as magnus? Magnus had a lot more resources and tools to use to get better while paul morphy had almost no resources ore good games to study. By that logic someone like Caruana is better than kasparov, but that is flat out wrong.

@@siraf1234 _"how can someone like for example paul morphy play at the same strength as magnus? Magnus had a lot more resources and tools to use to get better while paul morphy had almost no resources or good games to study."_ That's not the question. The question is what was their raw strength as they were. Not as they could have been. _" By that logic someone like Caruana is better than kasparov, but that is flat out wrong."_ But that's not what the computer evals show for their move quality and avg rate o inaccuracy/blunders, etc. The computers actually show that Kasparov's raw stregnth (as it was) was stronger than Caruana (as it stands).
@siraf1234
@siraf1234 3 жыл бұрын
@@Corteum First off, it is unfair to judge players from different eras this way. The raw strength wasnt what was asked about, its about the best players. And the only fair way of ranking the people who lived in different eras is to look at how they performed against their top competition rather than more modern players. I assumed that Caruanas accuracy was higher, the point was only that if a player from for example 50 years from now is technically better than kasparov that doesnt mean he actually was better. The player could for example only be in the top 10, but his actual playing strength would be higher than kasparovs. That does not mean he is a better play tho.
@Corteum
@Corteum 3 жыл бұрын
@@siraf1234 I wouldn't say that it is unfair. You're simply evaluating their true strength as they were, not as they could have been or might have been. Do you not understand that? We're not trying to assess how strong a player might have been if given different circumstances. We just want to know how strong they were under the circumstances. As for Caruana and Kasparov, leave it to the computers to give an objective evaluation of who was stronger. No human could make an accurate evaluation of a players stregnth, because no human can hold and compute all of the variables required to know that.

fisher and Lasker are pre-computer which was obviously well considered on this list. Kasparovs career transcends both pre and post computer generations and so makes him the Beetoven of Chess

There's no way to objectively measure someone's skill (SI don't have no unit for that) so any rankings you wanna come up with are gonna be subjective in some way. While Naka opinion must be taken into account since he himself is a great player personally I think Morphy is the very best the world has ever known. Second and third are Fisher and Carlsen respectively and 4 and 5 Garry and Vishy

Great content but the music is a little bit annoying. You can fix that putting a compressor on the music, as radio host do. The music will duck a little bit every time you speak.
