Timeless venerated (essentially) a hand made Singer 99, designed almost 100 years ago. Many 66 and 99 machines are still in use, not as relics, but as workhorses! The originals will likely outlive YOU, regardless how old you are. The ones in this video are beautifully put together. Righteous pride in their work...

Singer 99 and 66 have horizontal bobbin, oscillating hook, and tension on the front of the machine. These machines are singer model 15 copies, with a vertical bobbin using click-in bobbin case, and tension mechanism mounted on the end plate.

I have a 66 that was restored to "new" about 40 years ago when I bought it, really beautiful. I thought I had something special until I learned they're quite common. They get restored that way all the time. Don't let them just sit. Oil them a spin them gently every once in a while. Enjoy.

Lol…quality! After a little use screws vibrate loose stripping the threads. It may work for a few hours but after that you’ll be glueing in screws so everything holds together, but it won’t work properly ever again.

I’m willing to bet this one is scrap within 10 years just from the crap casting, whereas my 1907 singer 15 still works as good as the day it was made and will probably still be doing so in another 100 years. There is no comparison and it’s an insult to singer to try to make one.

Good point. The decorating goes on first because the lacquer finish needs to be heated in a kiln to very high temperatures to make it stick to the cast iron. The decals are fused to the enamal at the same time. That much heat would wrap the steel machine parts if they were already in place.

Sadly these machines would not last very long, certainly not forever. The surfaces are not ground, the tolerances are enormous, they never clean the piece after cutting metal inside the casting. In a year of use you would have to throw this machine away because the bearing surfaces would be out of round.

They're all clones of the Singer 15, with varying degrees of accuracy. So, Strictly an American design but made in many factories all over the world from the 1890's to the 1950's. Most of the early Japanese sewing machines were also clones of the Singer 15 and production of such clones has since moved "down the development ladder" The same goes for Singer 81 overlockers, those too were copied and are copied in several variants.

My aunt is a professional seamstress and she once said she regretted letting go of her old singer machine for a newer one. The older one was much more durable according to her. The newer plastic body machines tend to need more troubleshooting than the older ones. These workers are so hardworking and it's almost therapeutic to see them at work. However I wish they'd use some protective gears especially while using spray paint or other chemicals that might eventually damage their health.
