I just found this series and am finding it eminently enjoyable. You take what could be a difficult skill and break it down for beginners. Your starting point is also as someone new to each craft, not a craft master who has a large amount of money in tools making a tutorial. Showing this from a basic view is a very good way to go. I also like how you describe things as someone approaching something for the first time, not knowing the technical names, which helps other newbies learn, as they too, would not know the technical names of things. Keep up the good work.

Love this channel! As a leather worker, I would like to suggest a slight change to your design. The large opening at the forearm can have any edge design, one would like. At the wrist, however, I would recommend a slight shortening of the pattern at the underside of the wrist. Once the bracers are laced tightly to the arm, the hand will be quite restricted, if the edge has not been shortened toward the laces. It can be a very slight arch upwards, so that the leather pattern shows a mild crescent. Keep up the great work.

A set of bracers was one of the first things I did when I got into leathercraft. Simple enough and infinitely customizable. A recommendation I'd make would be to line the bracers. Use a lighter weight outside piece and line with another light piece. Then glue the pieces, flesh side to flesh side, and stitch. Finally proceed with the steps you laid out.

Chainmaille would be an interesting next step for you. You could do either jewelry or armour with it. And tool wise, you really only need two needle nosed plyers. There's tons of pattern types out there as well, from the armour standard European 4-in-1, to dragonscale, to elfweave and beyond.

@@SkillTree dragonscale is good for something like a shirt (but massively time consuming) or a bracelet. If you go the bracelet route, you can actually make it into one piece, without needing to use a latch. The final connections are finicky though.

How do you tie them together and how does it feel? Is it comfy? When you twist your wrist, does it let you do that with ease? Is it comfy when u twist your wrist?
@SkillTree2 жыл бұрын
To lace them up you just use some cordage through the eyelets. They are comfortable for me and give me free movement of my hands. That said, there are a bunch of different ways you can cut them to make sure you have the room you want. If you are worried about them getting in the way of your hand, try cutting them a bit deeper in those areas.

The stuff you make looks great, and this is no exception. However, I'd much rather see more of the actual crafting process in these videos, and less of you just explaining what you did. I'd much rather see the crafting of the items than to just be listening and watching video of you explaining about what you did. That's my preference, because I actually like seeing the items getting made. Explanations just aren't the same thing as actually seeing you do it.
