The problem with these Sony remasters isnt the games themselves, its the game they refuse to remaster. Remastering Horizon which is already on PS5 and PC while Bloodborne continues to be stuck on PS4 at 25fps is a real spit in the face.

I have watched 3 different Ghibli documentaries and they are all awesome. The core of them usually being that Miyazaki is always having some level of existential crisis, wants to retire because he isn't feeling burnt out, so he steps back for a minute then realizes that he only feels fullfilled when he is storytelling so goes back in again. It is almost formulaic but it also shows how some who is revered so highly is a very flawed and person. Not a horrible dickhead just insanely human.

For those unfamiliar with hurricanes, by the time the storm made it North Carolina it was a tropical storm or tropical depression. The problem with this type of storm is they are slow moving inland, so you have rain dumping for hours. There were parts of the West side of North Carolina that received 30 inches of rain in mountainous area, which funnels the water collection into a "river" that rises quickly. The rotation of the storm pulls moisture off the ocean hundreds of miles away inland and keeps dumping it as rain. You expect a lot of rain, but 30 inches is something you don't plan for. Pray for those that were captured by unexpected flooding.

UFO 50 is a masterpiece. Easily recommendable to everyone just for how many two-player couch games it has! My wife and I have been having a hilarious blast with so many of them. Get it just for that because it's the kind of game that will attract your wife or girlfriend to play a little two-player game because they're so cute and simple.

The one game I truly want to be remade or remastered is Simpsons Hit and Run. It's been like 20 years now I think, and that is still a game that is very close to my heart, one of my favourite games from my childhood, but the game itself is extremely dated now and it doesn't feel like what I remember it as, it really needs a refresh.

Yeah a lot of the discourse totally ignores this - not everyone has already played these games, and a remaster is a quick way to get them up to scratch for modern audiences. A simple remaster is not that different to a book being reprinted or a TV show box set coming out on Blu Ray that was previously only on DVD or whatever, just the nature of the technology means it's a bigger job to keep a piece of software up to date.

Some remakes/remasters I'd be interested in: The Legend of Dragoon - not happening, but one can dream. Final Fantasy Tactics - this was in the Nvidia leak, haven't heard anything about it since so not sure what's up with it. Lufia 1 and 2, Treasure of the Rudras, Terranigma remasters - a lot of classic JRPGs are getting remastered or released in worldwide elsewhere lately so why not. Metroid Prime 2 and 3 - finish up the other two so we can play them all with modern graphics along with MP4. Half-Life 1 and 2 - I know there's a mod team remaster for PC, but I'm talking about a console version remake of both games. Valve, if you aren't going to make a HL3, then at least give us 1 and 2 remake/remaster on console with modern graphics and the ability to aim down sights with the guns so the gameplay feels 2024. Eternal Darkness - will never happen, but one can dream.

Probably a very big part of Silent Hill 2's unique atmosphere and horror is that it's a PS2 game. It looks and feels a certain way due to the technology of the time and it was built around that. If you recreated an old B&W movie shot for shot, in colour, with a high res digital camera, with better lighting and sound tech, I think you'd probably lose more than you'd gain. I know games are a very very different medium and actually a remake can be the best way to experience some of them, but with something like Silent Hill idk.

I don't really like remasters or remakes, but I do understand when there's such a graphic leap (like from SD to HD or 4K) that even if you wanna pley the game now, there's just isn't screens for it. Remakes, I accept when games at the time couldn't live up to their full potential but, they either have a cult following, or something unique to them. Good games, in my opinion, do not need remakes. They need/deserve sequels or spinoffs.

Horizon Remaster is not made for the core gaming audience and only exists because of the TV show. The show got delayed, but the game was on track. They've learned it worth the time to get that first game ready for a new or returning audience if/when the show becomes popular.

I will always stand by my opinion that Horizon ZD (and to a slightly lesser extent FW) is an excellent game with a really creative and impactful sci-fi story, but suffered from releasing at the worst possible time (right behind BotW, or Elden Ring for FW). A remaster now is absolutely ridiculous though.

💯 Fully agree on all fronts. Got the platinum on both games, and while they’re def a bit of a chip off the old Ubisoft open-world playbook, they do enough things incredibly well and with enough creativity and panache to overcome most of their big faults. After completing H:FW:BS expansion, though, I started to wonder if I’ll have the same enthusiasm for the third game (whenever it comes out), as it feels like the disconnect between Aloy the character and Aloy the unbreakable terminator became a bit more pronounced by the end of the second game. It’s alreadya stretch to imagine bows and arrows defeating metal t-rexes. But there was just something about the way she and the crew went up against the antagonists from the second game (and frankly, some of the writing), which just made the series start to feel like it would benefit A LOT from trimming some fat / not having to be so damn big.

At this point, the game that jumps out when considering what deserves a remake so badly, it's gotta be Predator: Concrete Jungle. Once upond a time, I dreamed about Ubisoft getting a hold of that IP. Not so much anymore methinks, But I desperately wish for a revival of it, I'd give anything for a single-player open world city/surrounding forest area setting that lets you lose as a predator with all the gadgets/tools and weapons at your disposal. The plot was even pretty cool. Miss that game and always wanted a sequel.

The thing about re-games, if it was just nostalgia, they wouldn't do so well. Younger generations who didn't play f.i. Deadspace and remake is their first contact with the IP, still love it, because it was simply a good game, made in an era where game-making wasn't all about money grabbs. It really shouldn't be a surprise that the Silent Hill remake is good. The hate came from 2 things that had nothing to do with whether this game would be good. First, people hated Bloober for basically rip[ping off silent hill at every opportunity, but that criticism can't apply to remaking silent hill. Second, people freaked out when the trailer was combat focused, as though we haven't learned anything about how publishers market game since the first silent hill came out!

You forgot one, Bloober's track record of games. The Medium was their last game and there's gotta be paid reviews with that one, cause that was legitimately the worst game I have ever played and it's basically got 5 stars everywhere. Layers of Fear is the their most popular game, but that was made 8 years ago.

I would like to see a remaster of Killzone and perhaps a relaunch of the entire series. Not sure why, probably due to poor sales, that it fell out of favour. Perhaps it could be Playstation's attempt again to compete with COD & Battlefield.
